Former - Busnelli @Salone del Mobile 2017

For this edition of the Milan Furniture Fair, Former has focused on wardrobe systems — an area to which it has also brought innovation and new ideas. One of the leading proposals will be Center, the wardrobe that sees the introduction of a new technology with a bridging unit, interiors with strongly characterized equipment, and two new doors (Glam hinged door and Shoji sliding door). Center will premier at the Furniture Fair in fossil oak — a unique and valuable wood extracted from the subsoil, which has an average age of 2000 years. The characteristics and naturalness of this material enable ‘unique pieces’ to be created, as each cut and section are different from the others, providing an exclusive finish for each individual product. The protagonists of the sleeping area will be the two walk-in wardrobes: Shop and Avenue. Shop stands out from traditional wardrobes as it is free from any closure, revealing itself in all its richness and formal precision. The concept is to recreate a tailor-made boutique at home. A flexible space designed for convenient access to clothing and accessories — a veritable place in which to delve to choose one’s daily outfit. Avenue reduces the visible components, dressing the walls like a second skin. The vertical signs of the side panels vanish, leaving room for the horizontal #design of the wooden panelling. New designers have become part of the Former family, including Francesco Faccin, one of the most interesting representatives of contemporary #design, who will be presenting Controvento, a round table with two versions to seat six or ten people. Controvento is a table with a strong convivial nature. The rotating tray at its centre enables the food that livens up the table to be shared. It is made of solid oak with a moulded base that becomes a support for the lower cross vault and upper brace. The finishes of the top and tray are available in stone or stained oak. Various combinations are possible. Tomas Kral, a minimal designer with a Scandinavian background, has designed Prism for Former, a living room table with a strong graphic nature obtained through a sophisticated play on shapes, materials, and textures. The square table creates a contrast with the octagonal figure on the top, created using glossy and matte finishes to create a prismatic shape. The top is made of marble that has been sandblasted at the centre and is glossy or polished on the outside. It is supported by a solid wood frame. FORMER On the strength of over 60 years of history, Former has decided to modernise and update some of the products that best represent its history: Forty-five, Display, Keel Table, Lazy Suzy, and Fill have been reinterpreted in terms of both their #design and finishes. Its collaboration with Busnelli has also allowed the company to tap into new skills, improving some finishes, such as the workmanship of leather and fabrics. This is the case of the Elin chair, which has been created from the restyling of Trendy, a chair designed in the 1980s by Pinuccio Borgonovo. The reinterpretation lies in the finishes and workmanship, with the use of curved and stained ash for the frame, while the upholstered seat sees the inclusion of fine stitching and the backrest features a leather insert for a valuable and exclusive result.
