The Gentle Carpet
This is the title of the installation G.T.Design is taking to events related to The #newyork edition of ICFF. This prestigious global #design fair presents the latest developments - the best and what’s next - to the American public. Gentle Carpet’s layout is stylish and elegantly-based on subtraction; the company is rolling-out this format in stores around the world. A collection of timeless rugs takes center-stage in the prestigious multi-brand showroom of DOM Interiors, a venue that offers the very best International #design and Made in Italy luxury. The carpets have been positioned in the showroom to initiate an understated, almost intellectual dialogue with the furnishings; alternately, they have been rolled-up like parchment and presented in precious display cabinets to illustrate the fine details of the materials. On the one hand, there is research that digs deeper into the consolidated pioneering processes – how to use the yarns, original application procedures, reflections on natural fibers or hand-painted creations – and on the other, the exploration of new territories, such as digital printing, that produce innovative expressive languages. The common denominator in the collections of the brand, created by Deanna Comellini, designer and art director, and Michele Preti, and currently celebrating 40 years of activity, is its extraordinary penchant for research. This led to the creation of the first patented contemporary rug in coconut fiber, Coconut Rug; Kama, an innovative application of viscose, a fiber chosen for its ability to capture and reflect light; or the translation of the relationship between architecture, space and memory into images with Luoghi (places). At the time of writing, new and exclusively hand-made models are taking shape, with innovative developments in terms of weaving techniques, yarns, color palettes, durability and motifs, right down to the ‘in vogue’ digital printing. As Deanna Comellini, the brand’s art director, pointed out: “We always look to the past to review the signs and signals and capture possible recognizable inspiration; we also look to the future to extend further into unknown territories and experiment something new”.
Next
The Next collection is the result of a burning desire to experiment. Digital printing techniques can be used to produce a one-off rug or large wall-to-wall carpets embellished on request with the client’s motifs or the best models from the G.T.Design catalogue. The textures and the patterns of Luoghi, Aqua Tinta, and more besides, are now available for hardwearing carpets to cover large surfaces subjected to heavy footfall.
Kama
Kama has been produced since 2001 by G.T.Design, its sole authorized manufacturer. The weave that revolutionized how the contemporary rug was envisaged was inspired by Deanna Comellini, designer and art director. In Kama Original, light and color entwine and create luminous planes with modularity and chromatic versatility; they transform all projects that include these rugs into something truly unique and exclusive. Now that Kama Original is considered a part of the history of #design, it is more closely aligned with pieces created by the true Maestros, thanks to the range of intense vibrant colors. Following more than fourteen years of development and continuous improvements, Kama Ambient is still associated with the most known international furnishing brands. Soft to touch, brilliant to see, the hand-woven viscose fiber is undeniably sumptuous yet wild. The measurements of these modules have been studied to embrace and envelop in gratifying intimacy. A bright glossy surface adds a dynamic touch that has yet to be imitated. Shape and light join in a spatial ensemble.
Campi   di   gravità
“Everything happens and appears through the contrasts”. This is how Deanna introduces her interpretation of these unique pieces. They are the results of personal research that started from #design and progressed through artistic reflection. The exploration of the evocative powers of color and material drove her towards a personal and intimate investigative scenario, where signs recall deep meanings that evolve with our perception. Concepts of extraordinary strength were born and in turn, they form systems of gravity and emotion. It is a route that strives to identify symbolic forms: the light is tormented by shades of reds, the earth is reddened by lava, it slides into the violet-browns to return to the tranquil, blue and silent nocturnal landscape, like an abstract canvas. These unique creations are signed by the author and produced in a limited numbered series.
Luoghi
Lightness and warmth are the predominant features of this collection of rugs in hand-painted wool. The lightweight rugs were inspired by surfaces weathered by time; they inject an element of the past into the most sophisticated #interiordesign projects. Entirely hand-painted on both sides, they combine the hard-wearing properties of wool with distinctive colors, making each piece totally unique and unrepeatable. The hand-stitching and the modular features of individual elements help the designer shape these textile paintings. They combine elegance and function to create a unique atmosphere wherever they used. The stitching of Luoghi Due uses yarns in three different colors, Terracotta, Ocra and Blu, in their respective combinations to match the colorways of the rugs: Terracotta-Borghi, Ocra-Borghi Back, Blu-Grotte.
Acqua tinta
Dyed on both sides in four basic colors - Selve, Oasi, Borghi and Grotte - that can be combined on request by the client and integrated with the Mix colorways: Borghi/Grotte and Selve/Oasi. On request, the rugs of the Luoghi collection can be produced in any dimension. Ancient walls of a rural village appear as light panels of color weathered by time and sunshine. A background of color hand-spread onto the smooth fine wool surface appears like a layer of paint that has been worn away, flaking, heavy with intense shading like the traditional facades. The soft shades of gray and white give this rug elegant and sophisticated esthetics with lightness their strong point. Made-to- measure on request, this rug can be personalized in terms of basic patterns and the dimensions.
