Colombo Boatyard: from Dinghy 12' to Poldo 23, the Centennial Boat

In 1917, Leopoldo Colombo was born on Lake Como, future owner of the same named Company, specialising in
building and restoring wooden boats, especially the #dinghy 12' of which over 350 have been built since 1943. For
over 50 years of activity, the Colombo's have been building and restoring hundreds of wooden boats, especially
sailing boats. To commemorate the 100 years of Leopoldo's birth (who passed away in 2006), his sons Giorgio and
Roberto are building “Poldo 23” an 'open' day‐cruiser, suitable also as a tender for megayachts. This special
centennial boat, designed by the Milanese #aldogatti, who has been collaborating with the Colombo boatyard for
over 30 years, is now available on the market. Since 2008, Giovanni, (Giorgio's son) has been working at the
boatyard in Grandola ed Uniti, thus guaranteeing continuity in the family tradition.
“Poldo 23” is created: to celebrate the Centenary of the founder
“Poldo 23” is an 'open' trailerable motor bat, 7.36 m and 2.478 m wide, and represents a significant step in the
history of the Colombo Boatyard of Grandola ed Uniti on Lake Como (www.colomboleopoldo.it). Its building
coincides with the 100th annniversary of the birth of Leopoldo Colombo, who founded this leading Italian
boatbuilding company in 1943 and who passed away in 2006. The boat can be used for day trips or as a luxurious
tender for mega yachts. The bow of the #poldo 23 is built with a double layer of carvel built planked mahogany, with
the sides also in mahogany, made up of 3 l5mm of layers glued with West‐system resin, without using screws. The
framework is made up of 9 frames using ash wood. A central keel board helps to limit the leeway. #poldo 23 was
designed by the Milanese yacht designer #aldogatti.
