Brazil drapes the city in green and gold for Milan Design Week

For the 2018 Milan #design Week, Milan will be wrapped in green and gold – metaphorically at least. A host of art installations will adorn the city from 17 to 22 April, putting Brazilian #design centre stage and front of mind, and inviting citizens to engage more deeply with the host of outstanding Brazilian #design pieces that form the several exhibitions in the Be Brasil pavilion at Spazio EDIT in via Maroncelli, where 65 designers will be on display.

The installations start on Via Pietro Maroncelli itself, just outside the Be Brasil pavilion, with an installation called Raise the Flag. This features nature-referenced indigenous graphics, and will be on display from 17 to 22 May. Curated by Marcelo Rosembaum, the installation comprises 300 flags that have been hand-painted by Kayapó women from the Pukany and Kubenkokre villages , located in the Amazon region. People are invited into the forest and rivers through powerful and subtle lines that reveal the beauty of the water flow, the direction of the wind, the repetition of the trees and the appearance of animals. Through this installation, Kayapó women are being supported by #apexbrasil and the city of Milan, which stimulates local craft and artistic work and contributes to the preservation of a six-million hectare Amazon rainforest area.
