Salone del Mobile Milano: News by S-CAB

Expanding its range of proposals through new and existing partnerships at the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2023, S-CAB focuses on sustainability from both a technical perspective linked to the choice of materials and use of furnishings, and a symbolic and emotional perspective with allusive forms. The wide variety of available finishes, materials and fabrics allows for extremely personalised and coordinated spaces, with increasing cross-contamination between outdoor and indoor furniture. Designs intended to last!

The Mentha chairs, the product of Archirivolto’s first collaboration with S-CAB, are instantly recognisable for their visual connection to the natural world, its harmonious and beautiful lines, and the ecological theme as a whole. Thirty years of experience designing furniture and accessories (especially chairs), combined with an entrepreneurial vision that anticipates widespread product success, led to a concept articulated by designers as follows: “Two leaves connected by a technical joint that revolutionises the conventional view of the plastic shell, introducing a fractured shape with its own distinct character. The chair’s central cut is not just a visual nod to the leaf; it is also a structural component that reinforces the piece, making it suitable for either normal domestic or intense restaurant use, working with different bases and even an upholstered version.” Archirivolto

The Mentha sofa is a cool, comfortable and cosy seat, just like its name suggests. The upholstered version is ideal for interiors, while the essential technopolymer version is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

The choice of material is just as important as the form: certified recycled plastic, a progressively evolved material increasingly used by the company.

The Mentha collection includes a wide range of chairs for various applications: modern seating for all types of public and private spaces, from residential to hospitality and catering. It is also at home in offices, auditoriums, conference or waiting rooms, and even educational institutions.

Mentha is a seating system featuring a uniquely designed polypropylene shell available in 6 different colours, upholstered or non, and can be paired with a variety of frames, making it a highly versatile collection.

Description: The chair consists of a technopolymer shell assembled on different bases. It is available in three versions: in plastic with upholstered seat, or completely upholstered.
The frame is the 4-legged or sled type, with or without armrests, or else swivelling with or without wheels. In steel or wood.

Technopolymer structure in colours: linen, dove grey, anthracite, caramel and sage green.

Steel frame in colours: linen, dove grey, anthracite, caramel and sage green.

Wooden frame in natural stained oak and black stained ash.

Wide range of indoor fabrics.

Another first for S-CAB, this time with Alessandro Stabile, a rising star on the Made in Italy industrial #design landscape who was already nominated for the Compasso d'Oro in 2022.  The Brezza armchair is his innovative take on outdoor comfort, where the frame and cushions engage in surprising dialogue: the upholstered parts are easy to fit into the frame and secure. The generous upholstery leaves the round metal legs exposed, lending strength and recognisability to the armchair.

The seat is thus incredibly practical: a simple gesture is all it takes to remove the upholstery and wash or replace it, to the advantage of long-term durability. Brezza exudes sturdiness and resistance, as well as natural, unpretentious grace.

For the designer, good contemporary #design must incorporate elements of innovation, ethics and elegance. Brezza’s natural materials were also chosen with environmental sensitivity in mind: “I chose fabrics made from recycled yarn and then designed a non-glue construction of the various elements. The frames can be stacked to reduce the shipping footprint and consequently CO2 emissions.” Alessandro Stabile

It was designed as an outdoor chair, but who knows: it might have a second life!

Description: The seat's metal frame is available in the colours: linen, dove grey, anthracite, olive green, mocha and terracotta.

A variety of materials are available, including recycled ecological fabrics, which are ecological fibres derived from recycled waste, then reprocessed and transformed into new products.

FLAP by Meneghello Paolelli, the first series of modular upholstered furniture where seating elements are combined in compositions with support surfaces, similarly shortens the gap between indoor and outdoor. To support the rear cushions, elements resembling aircraft flaps are attached to the backrest part of the main structure.

The designers say, “We were delighted to assist the company in this new endeavour, also thanks to our previous experience in outdoor #design. We offered all of our knowledge to S-CAB – with whom we already have an ongoing partnership that has resulted in numerous furnishings and accessories – to give life to a genuinely new and innovative project. FLAP, a modular range of upholstered outdoor furniture distinguished by a light and fresh #design, arose precisely from this long-standing relationship. The moveable backrest, a FLAP, which sits on the tubular structure and can rotate roughly 15 degrees on its axis, allowing the support cushion to have varying inclinations for maximum comfort, is what defines the system and gives the collection its name.

The frame, supported by the Flaps, appears to wrap around the line of cushions outlining the profile of the upholstery, highlighting the continuous antagonism between the softness and “fullness” of the upholstery, and lightness and “emptiness” of the enveloping structure. The system consists of four parts that can be combined to create varying compositions.

We purposefully designed a flexible solution that could be used in a variety of scenarios, both residential and commercial.” Sandro Meneghello and Marco Paolelli

Having acknowledged its versatility in outdoor settings and the practicality of its basic concept (two identical elements that function indistinctly as either a seat or backrest once hooked to the frame), Meneghello Paolelli’s SI-SI seat is now enriched with the SI-SI Bold version featuring comfortable padding, making it perfect for indoor settings. A family of chairs is thus completed, which, starting from the archetype of a tubular construction and curved sheet metal, both in steel, with the new addition of a fabric feel has translated the more pragmatic needs of the outdoor world.

The designers say, “SI-SI Bold is the natural evolution of the SI-SI outdoor chair, and will be introduced in 2023 on the indoor contract and retail market.
The chairs are twins, sisters, with the same #design matrix and basic frame. Unlike the SI-SI outdoor version, the Bold version consists of two distinct elements rather than a single backrest and seat to make the #design more suitable for indoor settings. The “biscuit” look is accentuated, and the seat is significantly raised for added character and comfort.
