LEMA Selection Preview 2015

Love for detail and search of quality define the discreet vision of the design made in Lema. A creative universe characterised by a soft language rich of simplicity intended in its highest meaning, with clever references to the design culture and unexpected dramatic turns, only apparently discontinuous in style, which exalt the character. A totally Italian way to be and design, aimed at substance intended as excellence of execution and materials: a precise philosophy that Lema has been pursuing since its foundation, since it was able to combine handicraft skills to cutting-edge industrial technologies. Turning the manufacturing heritage into highly mechanised processes led to a custom-made product, with the advantages of a modern mass production, despite retaining the care of details, typical of manual works. First in Italy to propose custom-made modular systems for the day and night area, thanks to the advanced technical know-how, Lema was able to constantly evolve, building a complete line for the home in over 40 years of history, which can be modulated according to personal tastes and needs, through an extensive furniture range characterised by inborn elegance that, in addition to systems which represent the brand’s core business, is currently consisting of chairs, sofas, tables, storage, beds and furnishing accessories. In fact, a few years ago, the brand began expressing itself through a precise living idea, pervaded by a refined understatement, dedicated to lovers of an informal lifestyle: this is Lema home, refuge of the soul, space thought like a tailor-made dress free of constraints, inspired to a lifestyle away from clamour and pretentiousness, devoted to utmost emotional comfort. A soft allure traces the boundaries where luxury always remains in the background, while a relaxed atmosphere stands out, charming for its impeccable quality and gracefulness of the single pieces. Creations thought to live in harmony, but able to freely and naturally adapt to every home, worldwide. This spirit also underlines the novelties that Lema will present at the Milan International Furniture Fair 2015, furniture and furnishing accessories designed by famous names in the international design sector, in addition to emerging designers, that underscore the company’s ability, unique in the furnishing world, to convey different design approaches in a very articulated, but always coherent collection. Not only the single objects remain impressed, but also the whole. The core of this year’s work is in fact focused, through the creation of furniture and furnishing accessories of strong character, on expanding and completing Lema’s living models, offering new aesthetic ideas for homes that are not afraid to be alive and reveal their most intimate character. At the basis, there is a constant research activity that approaches living trends to anticipate and exceed the expectations of the clientele, which is becoming more and more international, proposing collections that excite for their personal character, always in line with the brand’s quintessence. Thus Lema enriches its home archetype. Place devoted to utmost customisation, where colours and materials and – above all- their combination, create furniture with sought-for shapes and finishes: contemporary suggestions of the Mediterranean lifestyle, essence of the Made in Italy. To stand out, fabrics with soft textures and remarkable wefts, as if they were hand-made, matched to appealing velvets and leathers like hide and nabuk. The colour palette is inspired by a light decoration approach: the beige and dove grey are exalted in the contrast with darker tones like chocolate and brick. Woods are rich of texture, with grains that exalt the natural character, like heat-treated oak and Canaletto walnut. Bronzed finishes with aged effect characterise the metals: particular painting processes set the colour in depth, conferring a particular roundness to the pieces, warm and luxurious style details without never abandoning the linearity of shapes and usual Lema’s discretion. THE NOVELTIES FOR THE LIVING AREA AND UPHOLSTERED UNITS Among the new proposals, it stands out the absolute purity of Piero Lissoni’s lines, who signs Memo table. Thought to furnish a large dining area or refined meeting room, Memo is characterised by minimalist discretion that defines Lissoni’s style and by large sizes, 400x110 cm. Away from an ostentatious design frenzy, it is appealing for the balance and symmetry of the elements: the top in heat-treated oak or Lava stone and the metal structure, proposed in brushed aluminium in Titanium colour or lacquered Borgogna red. The aesthetic research was in fact focused on materials and their expressive ability that overcomes any form of artifice. Through a careful re-interpretation of modern stylistic methods, the power of design and handicraft skills guided Christophe Pillet’s work who signs three new proposals: Winston bar cabinet, the Brick Lane sofa and Lady Jane bergère. Winston is an exclusive piece of furniture inspired to traditional Chinese furniture, discreet and mysterious from the outside, but full of surprises, details and qualities inside. A modern box of wanders: in fact, previous details like the mirror bottom and inserts in leather and metal are revealed when opening the doors, designed to contain bottles and glasses in their thickness. Super-equipped, the internal compartment features bottle holders, drawers and extractable compartments. Above, the tilting panel hides a second space with extractable surface, that can be used as support to prepare cocktails. The light suspended base is in bronzed metal while the panels are characterised by the elegance of the Canaletto walnut texture. Square shapes and extra-softness, opposites that attract, for Brick Lane modular sofa with base flush with the floor. A balanced game of geometries and volumes that replicate for a new piece of furniture that cultivates the ambition to rise to a new classic, able to be introduced in any environment, whether private or contract. In addition to the neat shapes, this new proposal is characterised by the flow of advanced technology, wisely hidden from the stitching, that allows reclining the backrest and bring forward the seat, ensuring utmost comfort. Once again, contaminations of styles, today a winning approach to express sought-for contemporaneity at best, define the neat lines of the refined and cosy Lady Jane, that recall the shapes typical of the ‘50s. A timeless bergère, poetic but rigorous, with a soul of multiple facets, for the home but also for the office, with pivoting base in metal, proposed in the versions with high and low backrest. Precise references to the past also for Francesco Rota who enlarges the Yard sofa collection. The 2015 novelties are the refined daybed presented in Milan in a precious version in leather with base in bronze varnished metal and the new side tables and rear-sofa furniture units. Container-elements for the day, with structure in metal of bronze colour and wooden tops that, by re-interpreting the taste and creativity typical of the industrial design of the ‘60s, re-implement the concept of the collection, conceived with the intention to find a meeting point between systems, integrating the padded part with that envisaged for containment and support. The particular structure of the sofa was in fact conceived not only to hook the new elements but also tops, shelves and containers to always create different multi-purpose compositions. By implementing the aesthetic characteristics of the Yard collection, like the structures and metal feet, Rota’s work on the theme of containment also led to the definition of Court Yard. A small collection of freestanding elements, modular containers in wood with day compartments and sliding panels, thought to be combined to all Lema’s padded furniture. The tops in wood can be embellished by a thin metal slab, while the handles of the sliding doors are in extruded aluminium. Retrò creations with modern balance, also for Lennox lounge chair by Gordon Guillaumier. This refined design is inspired to an open corolla, suspended into the void, on the light structure in metal in bronze colour, which turns into an idea for an elegant and discreet armchair for conversations. A private, soft and seductive nest for reading and listening to fine music. A detail that also inspired the name. After the positive feedback obtained, the collection of padded furniture launched in 2013 was expanded, which is currently including numerous solutions to adapt to any aesthetic and functional need, with the new Aberdeen armchair by Officinadesign Lema which implements the aged and comfortable look of the homonymous sofa, thanks to the housse that gently envelopes it. The set-in armrest is exalted by the folds of the fabric that become an accurate detail, while the seat’s volumes are surrounded by a soft stitching. Comfort is ensured by the padding in polyurethane combined to the anallergic and ecologic fibre. The technical development does not dominate over the iconic aesthetics in reviewed classic style, thus rendering Aberdeen a piece of furniture of traditional character, for a house intended to share moments. Moreover, the neat design style, always between past and future, that has roots in the art of Roberto Lazzeroni, designer of Bice lounge chair. A passe-partout product, characterised by cosy shapes and vintage soul, perfect for any room of the home and also ideal for informal contract spaces. With finish in fabric or leather, it features a soft structure in bronzed metal. Reconfirmed the collaboration with Ferruccio Laviani who signs Tod. A furnishing accessory with an unusual lively twist: a pouf in fabric or leather, characterised by an organic shape where the details, recovered and the result of faraway cultures, define the bold expressive character. Ideal synthesis between industrial design and high craftsmanship, the volumes are cut by relief stitching that underscore the great tailoring skills, since always underlying the made in Lema. Ironic and funny, without excesses, Notch pouf by Johan Lindstén, young Swedish designer at his first collaboration with the company. A prèt-a-porter proposal based on a creative lymph influenced by the charm of modern nomadism. Thanks to its strong empathy, it is perfect in home and contract spaces. Available in two sizes, small and large to use also paired, it stands out for the softness of the seat in fabric and sought-for details like the straps in aged natural leather, that exalts the brand’s passion for the care to details. LucidiPevere also joined Lema’s team of designers. They conceived the design of Note table, essential architecture of rationalist style that chooses the elegant combination between the metal in bronze finish and leather in Whisky colour. Aesthetics and functionality meet and complete each other in this proposal, formally consisting of an ideal combination of three simple surfaces, each of which featuring a specific function. One of these surfaces, the central one, is entirely stitched in leather, featuring spacious accessory pockets. A larger pocket for pens, exercise books, magazines or books; a smaller pocket able to store for example, various remote controls and electronic devices. The design idea is based on a formal and functional contamination obtained from the series of objects located around the desk, such as the desk sets in leather. The sizes are extremely reduced, exalting the matters and finish. Note is in fact a small multi-purpose, light object, easy to move. Engraved surfaces as an abstract painting for the new Picture kitchen cupboard by Cairoli & Donzelli. With structure and front side in heat-treated oak, top in lacquered glass and essential base in bronzed metal, it is inspired to the ‘70s. Its particular work represents a new icon of Lema’s design philosophy between industry and craftsmanship. DAY SYSTEMS – SELECTA E T030 Lema has always been the ideal partner, through which home customisation is fully completed. The company’s DNA is indissolubly linked to the production of custom-made systems for the day and night areas; it is not by chance that Lema was the first Italian company to develop a custom-made system with loadbearing side panels that developed in the current Selecta, through the years. Bookcase par excellence, that celebrates its twentieth anniversary in 2015, Selecta was the first product to combine craftsmanship details on wood to a series of technical innovations that today, make it one of the most versatile solutions in terms of compositions, finishes and uses, thus representing an actual ad hoc product for each home that fully exploits the modernity and mechanisation of corporate processes. The 2015 novelty consists in Naica panel, in panel version. Another crowning achievement of the brand is T030, the modular system signed by Piero Lissoni, highly versatile with regards the compositions, finishes and colours. In addition to offer utmost design freedom thanks to the endless possible variants, Lema developed Box in 2013, a series of closed compositions, precious and original as a small limited series, in terms of combinations and colours. Studied to favour the design and logistics phase, facilitate installation and contain costs, they offer extremely elegant and versatile kitchen cupboards and containers, and highly appealing wall configurations, with games of solid and empty spaces, thanks to the different panels that create closed compartments and day areas to use freely. THE NOVELTIES OF THE NIGHT AREA The bedroom signed Lema becomes a place of wellness, exciting also for the sought-for aesthetics, thanks to the Walk-in Closets. Novenove by Officinadesign Lema and Hangar designed by Piero Lissoni – that this year is enriched with the new finish in melamine grey – focus on the creation of a private area, a safety refuge that shifts its hub from the pure storage function, becoming an actual room to live, also thanks to the presence of sofas and furnishing accessories that embellish the aesthetics. For Lema, the walk-in closet does not represent luxury in the strict sense of the term: it visualises instead a state of mind and way to live life and private spaces. The novelty for the night area is Madama bed by Officinadesign Lema, proposed with finish in fabric and leather, it stands out for its soft and reassuring shapes. The important headboard is characterised by the elegant stitching. The new Grea night tables by Marelli & Molteni play on solid and empty volumes and, beside the homonymous container, create a small collection where graphic and building details exalt the linearity of their shapes. A WARDROBE, COUNTLESS WARDROBES Modularity and customisation have always presented Lema’s stylistic touch. The industrialisation of production processes, combined to the finest care for details, led to the great development of the part dedicated to systems, therefore to the conception of a system that could allow utmost versatility in the closet sector like Armadio al Centimetro, the modular system that offers utmost building freedom thanks to the large range of available modules and possibility to adapt them according to the required sizes, in terms of height, width and depth. The technical aspect of the system is available in numerous aesthetic versions, according to the panel applied: this way, Lema’s furniture turns into endless closets, each with its taste and elegance, and every panel creates a closet. Among the 2015 proposals, there is the Text Closet by Officinadesign Lema with hinged or sliding panel and metal profile; the version with aligned panel of Naica Closet by Cairoli and Donzelli, grooved on the entire length, allows opening the adjacent panel, which is instead smooth. This way the grooves form a constant and even movement. Moreover, Nur Closet with shiny anodized aluminium is renewed with the valuable leather finish. From a modular point of view, the system expands with the corner modules for Ellevi, Warm, Naica and Nur closets. The shelves with glass and leather lighting and aluminium frames, are also of new conception. COMPLETE LIVING SPACES – SETTING BY PIERO LISSONI Complete living spaces present Lema’s style at best. This is the concept developed by Piero Lissoni, art director since 1994. The spacious stand of approx. one thousand square metres reveals the endless possibilities that Lema offers, integrating the various solutions proposed in the catalogue, as a harmonic score. The day systems act as setting to the padded furniture and the furnishing elements in the dining area; while closets and walk-in closets are the reference points of the night area. The spaces, thanks to the finishes and colours selected for each piece, convey an authentic and informal way to live the home focused on actually enjoying it, rather than purely aesthetic purposes. In the succession of spaces, each choice seems studied to infuse calmness and serenity, starting from the light grey colour of the floors. Another feature consists in the fabric finishes that distinguish some of the walls. Modern custom-made padded boiserie with corded profiles, conceived to underscore the design skills and peculiarities of Lema Contract: innovative industrial firm, in constant development, which realises ad hoc solutions for prestigious projects in the hospitality, multi-apartment field and for private residences, public retail spaces and companies, perfectly in line with motto You Think We Make, which has always been defining the mission. The “tailor-made” service represents the added value of Lema Contract: in developing each project, the client can rely on Lema as qualified partner, able to interpret and translate any aesthetic and above all functional need. Each project is something unique and unrepeatable: the idea on paper takes shape, the concept is translated into furniture, furnishing elements, accessories, special pieces. The above marks the difference between contract and simple supply, where the advanced production and technological systems boasted by Lema, allow not only an industrial mass production, also to attain costs/quality objectives that only a sector’s leader can guarantee. The extensive corporate experience in modular systems for the night and day area ensures the utmost ability to offer flexible and modular furniture. The front side of the stand features a large window that reproduces a refined home environment. Protagonists of the living area are a large Selecta composition in Fumo lacquered Carbone oak and the Yard sofas by Francesco Rota – with finish in the new Barolo mélange fabric in grey colour – characterised by the table and new piece of furniture behind the sofa with desk, both integrated to the structure. The space is completed by Cruise round table by Officinadesign Lema, with top in lacquered colour Titanium glass, the new Bice armchair by Roberto Lazzeroni in fabric and Sign table by Studio Kairos with Bruciato glossy lacquered top. The dining area features the new Memo table by Piero Lissoni - with top featuring lava stone finish and structure in Bourgogne red painted metal – matched to Bailu chairs by Neri&Hu and Galerist windows by Christophe Pillet. Behind the new Aberdeen armchairs by Officinadesign Lema and Long Island kitchen cupboard always by Pillet.
The new CourtYard containers by Francesco Rota in heat-treated oak with metal base in bronze colour, laid on the wall, divide the day and night area. The bedroom, space intended for utmost relax, is dominated by Hangar walk-in closet by Piero Lissoni in Moka oak with bronzed aluminium uprights and lit shelves and by Noa Closet by Marelli and Molteni, Pomice lacquered with interiors in melamine grey. Each panel features a handle consisting of a 110 cm-high opening containing a LED which underscores the design, becoming a discreet luminous detail. At the centre, the new Notch poufs by Johan Lindstén with finish in fabric and straps in aged natural leather. The bed is Theo model by Studio Kairos in Carbon oak, with removable headboard in fabric, matched to Sign tables, Shen night table by Cairoli&Donzelli, Pomice lacquered and Nine chest of drawers by Alessandro Dubini in heat-treated oak. The setting continues with two actual living solutions, both on two levels, positioned on the side of the lounge area, heart of the stand. Small home oases, furnishing suggestions to perceive the products inside emotional spaces. The one on the right, of younger and more dynamic character, features Yard sofas finished in fabric and equipped with the new piece of furniture behind the sofa. At the centre, Mr Zheng oval table by Roberto Lazzeroni with the exclusive top in inlaid Canaletto walnut and bronze metal base. Along the wall, a refined composition of T030 system in Carbon oak, with Talpa glossy lacquered panels. The upper level which hosts the night area, features Softland bed by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba and a large Selecta system. A more decorative furnishing sense dictates the rhythm of the second "home". Two 2015 novelties are the protagonists: Brick Lane sofa with fabric finish and Winston bar cabinet by Christophe Pillet in Canaletto walnut. Cruise tables by Officinadesign Lema with top in lacquered Titanium colour glass, Felix armchairs and Mr Zheng tables, both signed Roberto Lazzeroni, complete the space. Besides the sofa, the new Picture kitchen cupboard by Cairoli & Donzelli in heat-treated oak with top in lacquered glass. On the upper level, Edel bed by Officinadesign Lema with Silo night table by Studio Kairos. An imposing Selecta wall composition defines this area, which ideally connects the two levels, in heat-treated oak with Naica panels in wood and glass, backs in Carbon oak and lacquered in the new Limo colour. The display continues with a large dining area, ideally featuring Shade table by Francesco Rota with top in Argilla finish in the Ardesia colour, warm and with a feel of the texture, matched to Tabby chairs by Gordon Guillaumier, in fabric. Near the wall, three T030 Box suspended elements by Piero Lissoni, with structure in Carbon oak, lacquered shelves and panels in Argilla finish in the Ardesia colour. On the side, in the refined living space, two Mustique sofas by Gordon Guillaumier, with valuable finish in leather and foot in burnished metal. At the centre, Mr Zheng tables in Ombra and Senape lacquered finish and the new Notch poufs. Galerist display cabinets complete the space with their discreet elegance. Moreover, the new furnishing accessories – Tod poufs by Ferruccio Laviani and Note table by LucidiPevere – embellish the different sets, livening up the decor. An important area of the stand is dedicated to the display of the night systems. The display concept is based on the creation of spaces where the sensation of comfort and warmth that pervades the living spaces, is perceived. An uncut stylistic scene. The first environment, which is a day-night space, features Aria Closet by David López Quincoces and the new Text Closet by Officinadesign Lema with hinged or sliding door with metal profile as protagonists. In front, the new Lennox armchairs by Gordon Guillaumier in fabric, matched to the new Yard daybed by Francesco Rota with refined leather finish. At the centre, Flowers tables by Roberto Lazzeroni with Antimonio and Sabbia laquered tops. In the night area, Edel bed by Officinadesign Lema with fabric finish and refined contrast corded profile. Besides, Sign tables with Zolfo lacquered finish and the new Grea night table by Marelli & Molteni. A great composition consisting of two Naica Closets, in the new version with coplanar doors in heat-treated oak, interrupted by a suspended Selecta system, that expose the velvet boiserie, characterising some walls of the stand – defining a space intended for relax. A space where soft colours prevail, furnished with the Snap by Francesco Rota and Jermyn by Gordon Guillaumier sofas, both with refined fabric finishes. Together, the Flowers tables by Roberto Lazzeroni in Sabbia and Terracotta lacquered finish and Cruise table in the square version with Pepe lacquered top. The empty area under the suspended bookcase becomes an ideal space for reading with a Cloud pouf by Francesco Rota. Novelist desk by Christophe Pillet and Hati armchair by Piero Lissoni in Carbon oak and Barolo fabric are instead ideal for the home-office. The adjacent area is characterised by the light transparency of Aria Closet by David López Quincoces: a thin frame in anodized aluminium encloses a door in extra-clear glass that allows illuminating the closet’s interior with natural light. The almost impalpable design underlies an in-depth research from a technical point of view, because the doors’ hinges are thought to be invisible to avoid spoiling the purity of the lines. In front, Hangar walk-in closet in Moka oak with uprights in bronzed aluminium and lit shelves. At the centre, the new Yard daybed by Francesco Rota in leather. To end the display, a large closet system in melamine grey, intentionally proposed without doors to show countless decor options offered by Armadio al Centimetro system. The new Madama bed by Officinadesign Lema with fabric finish is protagonist of the space together with Silo table by Studio Kairos in lacquered Walnut finish and a module of T030 system in Navi glossy lacquered finish that it is used as a second night table. The set is completed by two Nine chests of drawers by Alessandro Dubini in heat-treated oak, Felix armchair in velvet and Sign table, with Walnut lacquered finish. LEMA LOUNGE From home to hotel spaces, sofas and seats furnish a lounge characterised by utmost comfort. Today, in designing spaces, the trend is in fact to re-create a sense of home privacy. The scope is to present sofas and furnishing accessories in a contract setting, underscoring the versatility of Lema’s furniture and their freedom of use. In fact, all products of the home division can be adapted in order to satisfy the needs of the business clientele. Lema Home and Lema Contract, the two Group’s divisions, exploit the technological and production technologies developed in time. Together, they present the high corporate value in being able to satisfy any design need, in aesthetic and functional terms. On one hand, the excellence of mass production typical of a large industry and on the other, the craftsmanship skills that allow developing specific custom-made solutions. A great composition of Cloud sofa by Francesco Rota is the protagonist of Lema Lounge, conceived as modular game of free and organic shapes, that can be matched or fitted in, giving life to always original solutions, suitable for home living and also large contract spaces. Playful geometries characterise the endless composition options, to design using eleven modules and three types of arms, of different sizes, shapes and height. Not only a sofa, but an actual tout court welcoming space, that can grow to the infinity as a soft puzzle, assuming unusual and versatile shapes, because each element can be used freely. The most classic and softer lines of Aberdeen sofas and new armchairs by Officinadesign Lema, always in fabric, are the ideal contrast. The padded furniture is matched to Mansion and Deck tables by Christophe Pillet, Flowers tables by Roberto Lazzeroni, and Wing seats by Werner Aisslinger, delicate petals in Carbon oak of Northern style, and fifteen spectacular Mirage mirrors by TokujinYoshioka. From the Salone to Euroluce, Lema furnishes Oluce’s home. Rho Pero Fairground, Hall 13 Booth E15 Lema doubles up its presence in Ferruccio Laviani set-up for Oluce, attending with an unusual stand for Euroluce, thought as home interior. The meeting between these two protagonists of Made in Italy was natural: in fact, they share the approach to quality and personalisation, values that underlie Lema’s philosophy that, by exploiting and exalting the skills and professionalism typical of Brianza district, has always defined itself through cutting-edge production processes, typical of a large industrial group, wisely integrated with accurate handicraft works. Lema at Fuorisalone 2015 – Botanical Garden In addition to the expo in Rho, Lema will also take part this year to Fuori Salone exhibition. Iconic pieces of the collection furnish the press room of The Garden of Wonders exhibition, a Journey Through Scents at the Botanical Garden of Brera, planned and promoted by Be Open Foundation inside the event of Interni, Feeding new ideas for the city which will remain open until May for Expo2015. Today, among the best interpreters of the Italian style worldwide, Lema was founded in 1970 by the Meroni family, which still manages it, strong of a tradition that dates back to the early post-war years. The Group consists of Home, Contract and office Departments, with International Office Concept. Lema was the first Italian firm to develop a load-bearing side-panel system in a variety of finishes and the “Armadio al centimetro” made- to-measure wardrobe, to suit every customer’s need. These two products are the symbols of the service that the company offers, today complemented by a complete catalogue including tables, beds, chairs all-finishing touches, in addition to the latest upholstery collections. Products that are sophisticated in their appeal, are all characterized by an ample possibility of customization in order to meet the different esthetical and functional demands of the clientele.
