Tabouret + Stool + HI-MACS® + creativity = Taboustool

The creativity of Thierry Wille, the talented Belgian designer with an international profile, brings us ‘Taboustool’ (tabouret + stool), a seat which revisits vintage style in a modern and highly innovative way, reinterpreting the ‘tabouret’, a low stool without a backrest which was very popular in 17th century France. In Taboustool, four flat legs, like ‘wings’, support a frame made of HI-MACS®; a plain ‘U’ shape, which streamlines the figure of the stool making it easy on the eye. The main structure is made of Hevea wood, from the rubber tree, which is among the most economical and ecological types of wood available on the market.

The use of solid and hollow elements created by the joints of the four legs, and the extensive space between the two ends of the armrest frame, makes Taboustool dynamic, ‘stable but light’ and attractive. The use of HI-MACS® was essential to the success of the project: thanks to its suitability for thermoforming, it was possible to mould and bend the frame, leaving it intact, without having to assemble several pieces, thus avoiding the unpleasant effect created by the joins which would have definitely impacted on the end result.

HI-MACS® is eye-catching, but highly durable: it is used to create architectural façades and for interior design, it is a flame, shock and scratch, mould, stain and chemical-resistant acrylic stone, strong enough for use in furnishing items that are used in the contract sector, where they are subject to persistent and often careless use. Presented at the international trade fair of Courtrai, in Belgium, Taboustool is a metropolitan and vaguely industrial-style piece, with a decisive and strong, clear-cut appearance. The frame is available in the over one hundred colours of HI-MACS®, for a unique and personal product.
