Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

The #londondesignfair hosts the largest collection of international exhibitions, designers, brands and country pavilions in one destination during the #london #design Festival annually.
For this the 10th Anniversary of the #fair we have decided to invite a guest country to join us in our celebrations. With an increasing overview of the global #design scene we have been observing with great interest the number of new independent designers and studio from India making their rst inroads on the global #design scene.
For this reason India has been selected to be our 1rst annual guest country pavilion at the #londondesignfair 2016 (22–25 September).
Titled This is India the pavilion will include ten emerging and established India-centric designers and brands across product, textile and furniture; offering a renewed but intimate perspective on established and emerging #design practices from India today. Continuing with the all Indian line-up the #fair has invited Spandana Gopal of Tiipoi to co-curate This is India, alongside Jimmy MacDonald founder & director of the #londondesignfair, with exhibition #design by Kangan Arora.
This is India is supported by e-commerce retailer Indelust, whose vision is to build a global awareness of an emerging #design sensibility originating from the Indian subcontinent.
The designers who have con rmed to showcase at This is India with the support of e-commerce retailer, Indelust are Delhi based textile designer, Leah Singh; product #design studio Objectry’ with their rst collection of wooden objects. Also exhibiting is designer and ceramicist Aman Khanna of Infonauts presenting his Claymen sculptures, contemporary lighting designer Paul Matter and fashion and interior textile brand Injiri. Further participants to be announced in July.
Curation
Spandana’s premise for the curation of the pavilion is to reveal how #design from India harmoniously ties in traditional approaches and industrial production. Spandana believes that historically and culturally, India never highlighted formal separations between #design, craft or architecture, as they have always existed within a singular, more holistic system of creation.
Tiipoi is a #london based brand and #design studio with a vision to champion #design concepts and manufacturing from India. Spandana Gopal is Tiipoi’s Founder and Creative Director and has been at the forefront of speaking about Indian #design and its context.
As a studio, Tiipoi works with independent craftsman and small manufacturers to create collections that bring together traditional craft and industrial manufacturing - to speak of the way most things are made in India.
Tiipoi launched its rst collection in exclusive partnership with Harrods in 2014 and are currently stocked at number of retailers in the UK including Heals and TwentyTwentyOne. Tiipoi has also produced exclusive projects in collaboration with Vivienne Westwood and the Sir John Soane Museum.
Exhibition #design
Experimentation and openness are the two central themes that tie in the works of all the designers and their making processes, and this is re ected in the exhibition #design for This is India is by Kangan Arora. Kangan’s proposed facade will be an installation composed
of over ve hundred ‘humble terracotta pots’, hand-painted and stacked as circling colonnades, stepped towers and shaded screens - A nod to the ancient astronomical instruments and jagged geometries of the Jantar Mantar.
Brief description of Kangan Arora
Kangan Arora is a London-based multi-disciplinary #design studio; recent work includes partnerships with Urban Out tters, REN Skincare and Heal’s, as well as producing her own interior textile collections.
Kangan studied at Central Saint Martins and the National Institute of Fashion Technology, before establishing her eponymous studio in 2011.
Her approach is typi ed by a celebratory use of colour, pattern and abstraction, while rooted in an appreciation of contrasting cultures and a rich tradition of visual storytelling, informed by her Indian heritage.
