International Competition - Mexico. Fernando Mosca Team

The Architect Fernando Mosca and his team participated in the competition for a temporary booth in Mexico City, more precisely in Manuel Tolsa Place.
The booth needed to be realized with sustainable eco-friendly materials and lightness features with easy assembly and dismantling. Moreover there was an important theme to develop.
Fernando Mosca, as head of the design team, coordinated the work of the other architects of the team: Amelia Mariano, Ksenia Puzakova and Emilia Mitrovic.
The concept of the booth is based on a Pre-Colombian architecture: step pyramid.
The project started from a rectangle (dimension: 10x15 m), covered with hand-woven carpets made by local artisans. The material used comes from the waste of local industries and represents a great example of re-use materials in terms of environmental sustainability.
Decorations recall in colours and in drawing the traditional Mexican motif: stripes with bright and fluorescent colours, floral pattern and unique Mexican skulls or "Sugar Skulls".
The total volume, which has a 7,7 meters high rectangular structure, is a contemporary new version of a traditional architecture in order to give a new identity. The uniqueness of this project is the inversion of volumes: the external becomes internal, the container becomes the content.
The entire rectangle is supported by a frame in steel beam in order to guarantee an easy assembly and dismantling.
The internal is composed of three elements which are connected to the structure and the stairs made in steel through juta, a recyclable  material in three different big formats.
At the entrance a stair which becomes a key element as it symbolizes Quetzalcoatl God.
The covering is innovative, a sort of permeable and transparent texture which guarantees the light to pass through.  White colors outside, gold inside, by spreading a warm and gold light which put in relation this precious color with Goddess.
The back, which coincides with the top of the stair, opens on a panoramic view and symbolizes the uphill path of the internal dialogue. Here we can arrive at the final destination in which human beings open themselves to the world in order to taste and share each aspect.
