Kazimir Screen_Design by Julia Dozsa

Freely inspired on the works by the renowned painter Malevich, a pioneer in the geometric abstractionism of 20th century Russian avant-gardes, and the founder of Suprematism, the decorative Kazimir screen is the key item of the #coleitaliandesignlabel 2018 collection. Conceived by Dutch designer Julia Dozsa, it combines its historical function as partition wall with the explosive aesthetical effect of a painting. The designer was inspired by the famous painter’s belief that “the object has no meaning in itself, but only when it is expressed and filled with colour”. “I transformed myself into the zero of shapes and went beyond the zero, that is, towards non-objective creation”, explains Kazimir Malevich. Julia Dozsa made this theory her own and gave life to Kazimir, the original screen with a metal structure covered in stretch jersey fabric. Dozsa personalised it with the bright colours that are typical of Malevich’s paintings to fill in the shapes, or rather, the “containers” of these colours. Then, pushing herself even further, she extended the proposal of her interior decoration “art pieces” to other colours and subjects (flowers, petals, objects, etc.) that echo the details of the paintings preserved in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The Kazimir screen’s bearing structure in metal is combined with two panels of different shape and size that can be composed in various ways. The jersey fabric covering them, available in solid colour or with patterns, gives life to yet another different version. Ideal to create just the right privacy in a study corner in the living room, hide a messy hobby-area from sight, or divide two rooms, with Kazimir the screen ceases to be a simple accessory that can be easily moved and put back into place when needed and takes on a lead role as it lights up any living space with its colours and sophisticated artistic quotations. The designer also developed specific variations for the contracting industry (designs inspired on food for cafés, bars, restaurants, as well as fashion-inspired designs featuring details of garments taken from works exhibited in the Rijksmuseum).
