Davide Groppi is participating in the “Guggenheim Intrapresae” project. For the occasion, is proud to present “Incontroluce”, celebrating thirty years of work in the creation of lamps.

We are delighted to announce that #davidegroppi has become part of the #guggenheim Intrapresæ, a prestigious group of entrepreneurs from distinguished companies that has managed the cultural activities and exhibits for the Peggy #guggenheim Collection since 1992.

The book “INCONTROLUCE”, was presented for the occasion. It narrates and illustrates the history of thirty years of work in the field of quality lights and lighting. “In the last few years” - explains #davidegroppi - “we have been spending a lot of time exploring the world of art and the lighting of artwork. For this reason, we are particularly honoured to become part of the #guggenheim Intrapresæ and be able to give our support to one of the most important museums in Italy for both European and American art from the first half of the 20th Century.

The Peggy #guggenheim Collection includes masterpieces by Picasso, Dalí, Magritte, Brâncuși and Pollock. It’s collection of informal Italian Abstractionism features exceptional works by Fontana, Afro Basaldella, Agostino Bonalumi, Toti Scialoja, Emilio Vedova and Carla Accardi. It is a museum of excellence visited by more than 400,000 #people a year and we are honoured to support it with all our means”.

DAVIDE GROPPI

Davide Groppi has always distinguished itself for its creative and entrepreneurial independence, developing unique products that are immediately recognisable on the market: lamps and light solutions in which simplicity, weightlessness, emotion and invention are the most important #components. It has collaborated with prestigious #design companies, creating lighting projects all over the world, illuminating houses, stores, museums and, overall, restaurants. Some of the most important and well known chefs in the world have chosen to light their restaurants with #davidegroppi, including Massimo Bottura, Massimiliano Alajmo, Moreno Cedroni, Giancarlo Perbellini, Carlo Cracco and Albert Adrià, Ciccio Sultano, Gennaro Esposito, just to name a few. #davidegroppi S.r.l. has been a part of the Italian #design Brands S.p.A. Group (IDB) since March of 2018. Our objective is to support and strengthen the already exceptional reputation this prestigious brand has internationally. IDB is a holding company created in 2015 by Private Equity Partners S.p.A.

Its management team include Fabio Sattin, Giovanni Campolo, Paolo Colonna and the brothers Giovanni and Michele Gervasoni, supported by a select group of high-level private investors. It is an organisation that unites first-rate companies in the field of #interiordesign and lighting, with the objective of creating an example of excellence and quality in Italian #design. Art has always inspired the work of #davidegroppi. Several of his lights have come about thanks to the inspiration of famous artists: the light of Caravaggio and the contrast of Fontana. Davide Groppi’s way of “thinking light” has been shaped by the vision of artists.

The patience and careful attention to detail of the ancient artisans mixes with the burning desire to experiment in an ever more audacious fashion. It’s an approach that is typical of contemporary artists. To be able to compare what you do with what artists do, to be able to light and give value to art; this has become a natural part of the everyday procedure of creating lamps at #davidegroppi. You might say it’s desire coming to life.

“Lighting art requires a lot of responsibility” - explains #davidegroppi. “Light can be considered another colour on the easel or another swing of the chisel for the sculptor. That’s why it has to be delicate and respectful, light like the work of a tailor”

GUGGENHEIM INTRAPRESÆ

Guggenheim Intrapresæ is the first and most well known Italian project to give private support to a museum. It started in 1992 as a strategic collaboration between the Peggy #guggenheim Collection in Venice and several companies that shared a passion for art and believed in supporting and investing in culture. The group is made up of quality Italian and international companies that distinguish themselves for the particular attention they give to cultural projects and social responsibility. In return, the museum guarantees close collaboration and complete visibility. “Guggenheim Intrapresæ is a corporate membership programme that is quite unique for Italy.

It demonstrates the deep connection there can be between art and quality business, with a focus on synergy and close collaboration” - says Karole P. B. Vail, Managing Director of the museum - “It’s an honour for the Peggy #guggenheim Collection I represent to see nineteen Intrapresæ companies share our institutional values year after year, actively participating in the day to day activities of the museum. This has been going on for 26 years. The relationship between art and business is a natural alliance for the Peggy #guggenheim Collection. It started as the desire to participate in a common objective: that of creating value and excellence. I am extremely pleased #davidegroppi has become a part of our group and I sincerely hope this new collaboration will last and be profitable.”

INCONTROLUCE

“Light is a story ... This book is the celebration of a trip that began 30 years ago, in 1988. At the same time, it also signals our departure towards new and unknown horizons. #incontroluce is the story of thirty years of lighting projects, in words and pictures. Thirty years of light. Light to see and feel #people and space. Light in the form of a vision, but also as an emotion”. “INCONTROLUCE” was conceived and written to celebrate Davide Groppi’s entrance into the #guggenheim Intrapresæ. It is a book that narrates thirty years of creating lights and lighting projects, sharing the vision that inspired Davide Groppi’s first creations, through written anecdotes and illustrations.

From his first experiments with light bulbs to the latest creations using electronic light, “INCONTROLUCE” looks back at Davide Groppi’s career and the history of his company. It’s an intense search for light that can see and feel #people and space, a light that can illuminate, but also inspire emotion and tell stories. The lamps and lighting solutions that #davidegroppi invents day after day are his language. They are like words he uses to tell stories: stories of light. They are stories of the INFINITO, a subtle and continuous line of indirect light that is essential in its apparent absence. Like NULLA, which represents, perhaps, the most significant and poetic of Davide Groppi’s creations. It is the result of a great search and intense need to take away. Like TETATET, a perfect table light to write the book of love, romantic and profound, on sale in Museum shop.
