CEDIT presents Policroma by Cristina Celestino and Araldica by Federico Pepe

Combining the creative study of materials with the extraordinary technological research of the Florim Group, during Milan #design Week 2019 the #cedit - Ceramiche d’Italia brand presents two new collections of ceramic interior wall coverings: #policroma by #cristinacelestino and #araldica by #federicopepe.
Two absolutely original stylistic interpretations that reinvent the ceramic product in a unique, individual way. Two creations reflecting singular creative philosophies that give highly decorative value added to #cedit large slabs.

POLICROMA designed by CRISTINA CELESTINO
Policroma offers an aesthetic formula that incorporates both the stylistic canons of classicism and an expressive code more in line with modern taste. The collection's repertoire of large slabs features motifs inspired by two separate sources: the exquisite vein texture of some specific, rare metamorphic rocks, and the sophisticated colours of Marmorino plaster.

The designs evolved by #cristinacelestino – architect and designer – have their origin/inspiration in this dual reference to marble and marble-like surfaces. Two materials which, in different ways, are central to the Italian culture of building #design. With the #policroma collection, the mass of memories relating to the use of these materials acquires new life: the large #cedit ceramic surfaces become portions of space, on which the exquisite "geographies" of a marble surface or the subtle ripples of colour in a plaster pattern are magnified, in unbroken successions or defined by a severe dark perimeter frame.
“The ability of Cedit's technology to interpret other materials empowered me to investigate the world of marble and Marmorino plaster," the designer explains. "I decided to make it quite clear that I was imitating these materials, both by using frames and by mixing marble and Marmorino plaster in the same slab, creating interaction between them with concave/convex patterns."

ARALDICA COLLECTION designed by FEDERICO PEPE
In #araldica, multi-faceted creative spirit #federicopepe expresses some of the themes fundamental to the character and quality of his work over time.
The collection is inspired by the traditional marbled papers used mainly in book-binding, reinterpreted by the designer to create original visual textures which, applied to large ceramic wall covering slabs, become a hypnotic, fascinating, variegated mix of colour.
Some of Pepe's designs juxtapose two different graphic linear motifs, geometrically centred on the slab: a "coat-of-arms" and an "hourglass" shape, consisting of two opposing isosceles triangles.

These geometric forms are repeated on the different marbled backgrounds, generating an intriguing evolution of allusive visual perceptions: #araldica has an extreme graphic impact, referencing the topic of a disordered sense of sight - including hallucination.

“The opportunity to work on glossy slabs enabled me to uproot the idea of marbled paper from its identity as paper: unlike the matt variant, this finish offers an incredible depth, as patterns almost appear three-dimensional on the surface Working with #cedit gave me great scope to explore all this."
Stefano Torrenti, CEO of Florim Ceramiche – the Group which owns #cedit - states: “Florim is not, strictly speaking, a ceramics firm; it is an Italian #design firm that is proud to work in ceramics. The new #cedit collections reflect the Designers' originality of expression, offering large surfaces for creating beautiful interiors to be enjoyed and experienced to the full. Further confirmation that industrial ceramics are evolving from functional objects to #design items essential for the creation of aesthetically unique, original spaces."
During the Fuorisalone (8-14 April), #policroma and #araldica will provide the coverings for the installation in Spazio #cedit (designed by studio BRH+) and on Wednesday 10 April they will star in an original evening-event. This location – next-door to the Florim Flagship Store – will host a fascinating performance directed by Elisabetta Di Terlizzi of the Progetto Brockenhaus collective with original music by Teho Teardo and costumes by Oro Nero Creazioni.
