Mason Editions - Time matter

Mason Editions at #palazzolitta with a reflection on Time and Matter, amidst new product releases and original finishes for the brand must-haves.

One year from its debut on the #design scene, #masoneditions enters the elegant “Marquis’ study” of #palazzolitta to present new products and some original finishes which dress some of the iconic elements of the first collection with a pronounced materiality: decorative objects, lamps and accessories that stand out for an innate versatility, the emphasis on materials and workmanship, along with an unmistakable Italian character.

The installation concept by #matteofiorini, art director of the brand, is focused on austere minimalist volumes that, in their contrast with the Baroque style of the location, seem to multiply the material and temporal planes. Poised between a past that recalls an ancient savoir-faire and a present/future in the making, marked by a desire for discontinuity and progress, the objects stand out in their undiluted spectacular impact.

“In such an important location defined by a precise historical period, we have designed an uncompromising stage which stands out abruptly from its surrounds,” explains #matteofiorini. “In this context, the objects by #masoneditions represent a dialectical dialogue between the matter, colour and form of a past era – subject to cyclical revivals - and our ever evolving modern times. From the Art Nouveau whiplash of Touché, to Lotus, a new vision of the traditional table lamp, through to the primordial matrix of the new released Hakou, these objects are contemporary reinterpretations of the materials and #design traits of our memory.”

New product releases include the Triplo side table designed by #martinabartoli. The project is based on the concept of dissecting a flat rest surface into three different heights, to obtain three tops. Made from highly impacting materials, yet lightweight in its construction, the resulting side table has three solid wood tops supported by a slender structure consisting of three steel rods. Versatile, functional and fun, Triplo is available in three different colour combinations.

Time and matter, apparently suspended in an ethereal impression of light, define the second new release being presented by #masoneditions: Hakou, a line of fruit dishes and knickknack trays signed by #matteofiorini. The Japanese word identifying this project indicates a rather special kind of atmosphere: “the reflection of light on water”. A thick sheet of pulegoso glass, whose shape recalls the silhouette of a boat, rests on a slender trestle consisting of a series of metal rods. Light seems to traverse its transparency.

Alongside this year’s novelties, some elements of the first collection have been reinterpreted in the light of a new materiality.

Special new finishes also dress some of the iconic products of the first collection. The Lotus table lamp by #serenaconfalonieri is now being presented in the variants with a brushed copper and polished brass stand combined with a corolla of three white acid-etched glass elements, or with a white nickel stand in a matt finish and a luminous corolla in clear glass, while the Fugit vase designed by #matteofiorini, defined by a pronounced architectural spirit, is presented in the finishes of polished black nickel, matt bronze or blue. Finally, the Touché tray by #martinabartoli has been interpreted in three new variants: black matt nickel rod paired up with a flat surface in black varnished ash, gilt rod with natural ash and matt copper rod with natural Canaletto walnut.
