Billiani at the 2019 Milan Fair. The North-Eastern Italy company reconfirms its desire for renewal with the announcement of a prestigious collaboration with Cristina Celestino

Billiani, a historic company specializing in the production of seating for the contract sector, will be exhibiting at the 2019 Milan Fair with a stand designed by the Milan-based architect and designer from Friuli, #cristinacelestino, who, since February 2019 has assumed the role of #billiani art director. The new vision aims to bring together Billiani's entrepreneurial heritage, technological know-how and production flexibility, revisiting these through a more distinctive and concordant image. In a broader corporate rebranding process, Celestino has just redesigned the #billiani logo. Her role will extend from product #design and development to the search for a different way of presenting the brand.

With abstract and not-to-scale architecture, this year's Milan Fair space is intended to be a tour through Billiani's production over the last ten years. The theme is that of an idealistic stone garden, with alcoves and metaphysical gardens on high. Soft mustard-coloured carpeting combines with vertical surfaces that shift between pinkish white and understated burgundy. This careful selection of colours and furnishing materials calibrates the weights and defines the different thematic areas.

Milan Fair exhibits will comprise new #billiani lines along with #billiani #design icons. Celestino has selected distinctive models from Billiani's recent history and wants to offer stand visitors a complete overview of Billiani's identity as they pass through.

New lines include the Fitt Classic, designed by Victor Carrasco. From the early stages of the project, the goal of this Valencian designer was to create a versatile chair, with multiple applications. The result is an ashwood armchair with a light and timeless plywood shell. Characterized by a high level of comfort and intriguing proportions, Fitt Classic is presented in the wooden armchair version, or in variants with a metal base.

There will also be expansions of successful collections, such as the Layer armchair, designed by the German #michaelgeldmacher and proposed this year in lounge chair and stool versions; and the generously proportioned White, from the Finn #harrikoskinen, which now sees the addition of stool version.

COMPANY PROFILE
Billiani was founded in 1911 in Manzano, Friuli, North-Eastern Italy. A small workshop in a strategic area, on the Austro-Hungarian border, founded by Luigi #billiani (class of 1888) which contributed to laying the foundations of what, after World War II, was to become the famed Friuli chair manufacturing area. In the years of the Italian economic boom, #billiani Bros, grew into a structured company thanks to the entrepreneurial vision of Luigi's sons Ottone, Orlando, Lino and Bruno #billiani. In 1986 today’s, Luigi #billiani, the third generation of entrepreneurs, took centre stage on the international marketplace and, thanks to his local knowledge and connections, distinguished himself on the international contract scene. In 1997, thanks also to the contribution of the managing director, Veronik Romanutti, #billiani began producing under its own brand name. This was when important collaborations sprung up with Marco Ferreri, a great innovator in wood technology, and Emilio Nanni, who created the best #billiani sellers of the last ten years. Along with master Werther Toffoloni, #billiani s.r.l. has reinterpreted models from years of Friuli chair tradition. But it has also brought on board more international names, such as #harrikoskinen and #michaelgeldmacher, their own careers also centred around the expressiveness of wood.
With a desire for continuous renewal, whilst always respecting traditions and family identity, from February 2019 #billiani has entrusted artistic direction to #cristinacelestino, a Friuli architect and designer with her studio in Milan. In a broader corporate rebranding process, Celestino has just redesigned the #billiani logo. Her role will extend from product #design and development to a search for a different way of presenting the #billiani brand. In order to start a new entrepreneurial chapter with a stronger and more defined image, and also to establish a presence in the residential sector.
