Optimized design and riding experience – Bike manufacturer relies on Siemens software for model development

Rurok Industries (Rurok) is a bike manufacturer with a focus on innovative engineering and modern #design – summed up by the slogan “engineered experience”. In order to develop and produce high-quality bikes cost-effectively in this competitive market, Rurok relies on solutions from #siemens Digital Industries Software. The company has been able to reduce engineering times and the weight of components by 20 percent, while increasing their structural integrity by 50 percent. More efficient production frees up capital, which Rurok can then use for further growth and to expand its product range.

When it comes to the #design and performance of the bikes, Rurok is inspired by the mountains of the Philippines and of course the expectations of its customers. “Bikes should move forward, progress and get better, just as the rider does,” says P. J. Tolentino, the founder and head engineer at Rurok. In order to make a local Filipino company globally competitive, Rurok quickly realized that it needed modern engineering and innovative #design. This is a costly concept, particularly since at the start of product development around 99 percent of the physical prototypes didn’t work as desired. However, this was just one reason why Rurok opted to use Solid Edge software from #siemens. “Often times, the shape that we had in our head didn’t look like the final #design, mostly because we were constrained to #design in fixed shapes and numbers,” recalls Tolentino. “Synchronous technology from the Solid Edge portfolio was a more expressive way to shape and #design our parts.”

Faster, cost-effective and better

Another advantage of Solid Edge is the function for generative #design. With this capability, the software optimizes designs based on sketches and parameters such as materials, loads or constraints, which ensures a much more efficient #design process. Through the use of Solid Edge, Rurok has been able to speed up the #design process by 20 percent and increase the rigidity of components by 50 percent while reducing their weight by 20 percent. Rurok uses the resources saved in this way for growth and the further development or expansion of its product range.
