GANDIABLASCO Awards its 14th International Outdoor Furniture Design Awards

Boies, #sun and #valeria: these are the outdoor lights made from recyclable plastic that have been recognised by an expert jury.

For the fourteenth consecutive year, GANDIABLASCO has awarded the prizes of its International Outdoor Furniture #design Competition, undertaken with the aim of recognising and supporting the creativity of young talents who are passionate about #design and life outdoors.

In this edition, the competition aimed to award the best outdoor lights by highlighting their uniqueness, innovation and functionality, as well as their ability to integrate into an outdoor environment. The proposals had to be original, unpublished and made of 100% recycled plastic.

The 14th International Outdoor Furniture #design Competition was judged by a jury of experts made up of José A. Gandía-Blasco Canales, President and Creative Director of Gandia Blasco S.A; Juan Molins, art critic and exhibition curator; Marcelo Ghio, Content Strategy Director and editor at Experimenta magazine; and Helena Rohner, jewellery designer at Helena Rohner studio.

The winning designs were Boies, by María Franco Llinares and Denis Calle, who won first place, Sun, by Eduardo Blanco Espeleta, positioned in second place, and Valeria, by Daniel San Juan, was awarded a special mention.

Boies is a series of three outdoor lamps with LED lighting that can be operated either individually or in combination. Designed to combine in a multifaceted way in any environment, they stand out for their smooth lines reminiscent of marine buoys and oval edges that evoke the rounded shapes produced by the erosion of rivers and other forces of nature.

Sun is made up of three pieces that are ingeniously joined together, favouring perfect modulation of the light. The jury, which awarded this #design with second place in the #gandiablasco Awards, particularly valued the elegance and simplicity of the creation, as well as its versatility and functionality as a floor lamp.

The special mention in the 14th #gandiablasco Competition went to the Valeria lamp. A luminaire inspired by the classic lights of summer evenings that facilitates the improvised lighting in an enriching way, focusing only on the enjoyment of shared moments outdoors. Its #design aims to provide a lighting solution to an ever-changing environment like terraces.

This edition has been very special as the firm has encouraged all the candidates to awaken their ingenuity from home without losing sight of the spirit of the competition: to rethink the spaces that surround us, to value the time spent outdoors and to put #design at the service of well-being and intimacy in outdoor environments all year round.

Crossing the frontiers of #design in dialogue with disciplines as diverse as architecture, art, urban #design and fashion, the exciting experience of the GANDIABLASCO International Outdoor Furniture #design Competition will return next year to celebrate its 15th edition, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the brand.
