Italy, private home - PARCO DELLA BRUGHIERA
Having engaged architect Marco Ortalli to #design their new home, the owners – a couple with a young child – requested that reinforced concrete be used as the primary material. The home is located near the #parcodellabrughierabriantea, an area known for its natural scenic beauty.
Oriented east-west on the lot, the first of two large spaces includes the living room, kitchen, dining area and office. The other is designed as a work space and garage. Both are located on the short north-south oriented ends of the structure. In between are the bedrooms, with western exposure, while the bathrooms and laundry room face east.
The walls of the living room and laboratory are in reinforced concrete and have pitched ceilings, while the plastered walls and lower ceilings in the bedrooms and bathrooms lend a greater sense of coziness.
The differences in the public and private spaces are conveyed through size, materials and finishes. In the large open space, the exposed pitched ceiling is clad in chestnut wood slats; the floor is in smooth concrete and the walls in reinforced concrete. In the private areas, the ceilings are flat, the hardwood floors in chestnut and the walls are plastered.
Close to the large window overlooking the garden, a Groundpiece corner sofa paired with a Thomas armchair and with Soffio and Jiff occasional table makes for a truly cosy living room. The choice for the upholstery was an elegant shade of gray and the finish for the storage units is a sophisticated olive-colour suede.
Near the window, the sleek metal structure of the Any Day console, crowned by a top and drawers in Canaletto walnut, achieves decor purity.
A Thomas armchair paired with the Jiff coffee table was placed right next to fireplace. The armchair structure is in canaletto walnut and the cover in an elegant shade of ecru fabric.
Adjacent to the large stainless-steel kitchen, the Soffio table can accommodate 8 diners, comfortably seated on Crono and Feel Good dining chairs.
The graceful Crono armchairs display a sophisticated solid wood structure and hand-woven saddle hide cord seatbacks.
The homeowners set aside space for a home office furnished with a Jiff table in ebony-stained ash and Feel Good chairs.
Outside, two Peter Outdoor armchairs and a Fly Outdoor side table offer year-round open-air seating to admire the valley view.
