The names of the finalists of the 12th edition of the Grand Prix are out!

After an in-depth debate around architecture, the role of ceramics, the state of the art and possibilities of this traditional yet innovative material, the names of the finalists of the 12th edition of the Grand Prix are finally out. It was a demanding endeavour for the judges, given the number and quality of the projects submitted. The winners will be announced on 27 May at the Mudec Museum in Milan.

On 11 March at the Casalgrande Padana Creative Centre, the International Jury finally reached an agreement on the projects that will receive the 2019-2021 Grand Prix awards.

Chaired by Franco Manfredini (President of Casalgrande Padana), the jury is composed of:

• Francesca Gugliotta, a design journalist who writes for Italian and international magazines (London)
• Malgorzata Szczepanska, an interior designer, stylist and Editor-in-Chief of Elle Decoration (Warsaw)
• Benoit Joly, a journalist with D’Architecture magazine (Paris)
• Flavio Mangione, an architect and teacher (appointed by the National Council of Architects – Rome)
• Sebastian Redecke, an architect and journalist with Bauwelt magazine (Berlin)
• Matteo Vercelloni, an architect, journalist and architecture critic (Milan) 

The jury has chosen the names of the finalists of the 12th edition after evaluating over 140 applications and selecting the projects that have best expressed the theme of ceramics as the star of the architectural project from both a formal and functional point of view.

 The winners of the four categories (Shopping and Business Centres; Public, Service and Industrial Construction; Residential Buildings; Façade Cladding, Outdoor Flooring, Swimming Pools and Spas) will be announced during the award ceremony on 27 May in the Auditorium of the Mudec Museum in Milan.

This edition of the Grand Prix has once again demonstrated ceramics’ versatility and ability to meet the needs of contemporary architecture, even in different settings, and how this material can add value by emphasising the matter and the extraordinary role it plays in binding together the entire composition.
