Àgora València opens to the public with 120 Fluit chairs from Actiu

The pavilion is the showcase of World #design Capital #Valencia 2022 in Valencia’s Plaza del Ayuntamiento

The chairs come in mustard, grey and white tones, in line with the graphic image of the project

Castalla (Alicante), 23rd June - The #agoraValencia, the World #design Capital #Valencia 2022 project, has officially opened to the public, equipped with 120 #fluitchairs and two Trama tables by #Actiu, a specialist in the #design and manufacture of commercial furniture and furniture for contract spaces.

More specifically, the #fluitchairs have dressed Ágora València during the presentation of the programme of cross-cutting activities for all audiences with workshops, exhibitions, conferences and meetings that this space will host until December.

In mustard, grey and white tones, in tune with the graphic identity of the World #design Capital #Valencia 2022 and designed by #ibanramon, the #fluitchairs are set in a 350-square metre building, designed by the Valencian architect #miguelarraiz together with the firm Arqueha Arquitectura.

Àgora València is a project from the World #design Capital #Valencia 2022 and #Valencia City Council with the support of Valencia's Provincial Council, the Marina de València and the Valencian companies Inalco, Wandegar, Iguzzini and Cosín Estudio.

This pavilion will be the showcase and centre of operations for the World #design Capital #Valencia 2022 and brings together the "vareta" technique and ceramics, creating a unique combination of tradition and avant-garde, creativity and sustainability, craftsmanship and industry.

“At #Actiu, we have been supporting this initiative since it was just a dream shared by some Valencian companies and designers. And now it has become an event for the world of #design. We are delighted that Fluit, our 100% sustainable chair, will equip this space as it shows the Mediterranean essence that defines us. We have been working for #people for more than 50 years, so it is especially meaningful that it will be #people, that is, the general public, who will be able to get to know and use our chairs at Àgora València", said Soledat Berbegal, Actiu's Brand Reputation Director and Advisor.

The Mayor of #Valencia, #joanribo, expressed his hopes for this pavilion to be "everyone's Àgora" from the "heart of the city" while the President of the World #design Organization (WDO), David Kusuma, affirmed that at a time when "the whole world is looking at Valencia" this pavilion will be its nerve centre and will be part of the legacy that this project will leave "beyond 2022".

According to Xavi Calvo, director of the World #design Capital #Valencia 2022, the Valencian region is "the result of several centuries of design", which are reflected in this pavilion through its furniture, craftsmanship and architecture. The president of the Associació València Capital del Disseny, Marisa Gallén, stressed that this pavilion will allow us "to connect with society as a whole and tell them about design" thanks to participation from the industry and professionals.

A 100% sustainable Mediterranean chair

The equipment manufactured and loaned out by #Actiu for #agoraValencia includes two Trama tables, 32 white #fluitchairs, 16 grey ones and 72 mustard ones. Fluit is a 100% sustainable chair that incorporates fully recycled polypropylene plastic and fibreglass.

Fluit is the first collaboration between the brand and the Italian studio Archirivolto #design. It involves a concept of circular and sustainable economy that stands out for its fluidity and sensitivity, brought to life in a slender and robust piece which is capable of adapting to different corporate and hospitality environments.

80% of the material used to produce Fluit is certified post-consumer recycled plastic from the agri-food sector. Fibreglass makes up the remaining 20% of the material and is also recycled. To create this chair, #Actiu uses gas injection, an innovative industrial process that reinforces its resistance and provides a delicate finish that is soft to the touch. Also, in keeping with Actiu's philosophy, the Fluit production process is local.

During production, polypropylene is enriched with glass fibre to strengthen the resistance of a chair that can stack up to six units and can be used in indoor environments as well as on outdoor covered terraces, due to its aesthetics and UV protection quality.

Àgora València

Àgora #Valencia takes over from the pavilions that were set up in other World #design Capitals such as Helsinki (Finland) and Taipei (Taiwan) and has a space open to the public, an exhibition area and a screen for audiovisual projections.

The building forms a shell from ceramic pieces that will filter the light as the hours tick by, making light another architectural element. Over the next few months, the interior fixtures at #agoraValencia will be changing to accommodate different proposals from Valencian design-focused companies.

The master carpenter and renowned Fallas artist Manolo García has been commissioned to create the large piece of "vareta" (a traditional Valencian carpentry technique), which serves as the roof of the Àgora and which is inspired by the waves of the Mediterranean Sea.

The structure will be lit up at night like a lighthouse by way of an artistic and immersive lighting installation made with low-consumption LED technology, thus contributing to the sustainability of the project in which 50% of recycled materials have been used and 70% of water has been saved. From 2023, #agoraValencia will be dismantled and moved to its final destination, in the Marina at the port of #Valencia.
