ISIA Firenze for MIRABILI DESIGN @SUPERSTUDIO

ISIA Firenze presents the Design Fiction project, a concept by prof. Mirko Tattarini presenting a repertoire of projects based on Mirabili Design products and developed by students of the Strategic Design course of the MSc in Design.

Concept
14 armchairs hacked by as many designers of the students of the two-year master's degree at ISIA Florence. Each armchair comes with its own luminous symbiont. In between, 1 hybrid,
uncomfortably aware carpet.
Together with the objects comes the narrative of 14 absent characters for an inclusive assembly of
the near future. Design fiction with some roots in the solarpunk perspective, a cultural movement that promotes an active and progressive vision of the future.

The different designs follow three main approaches:
- the hacking of existing models as a methodological prerequisite excludes the activation of ex-novo supply chains
- the use of recycled materials, where possible;
- the search for an acceptable dimension of that luxury that crosses the tradition of Italian design.

The installation is supported by audio contents whose texts have been created through artificial intelligence systems and made available both in augmented reality and other interactive methods: the tracks show the voices of migrant peoples and want to draw attention to one of the most drama of our times. The theme of migrations is referred to within the set-up in several ways: the clothes horse, infographics and information content relating to migratory flows, mainly climatic.

A project curated by Mirko Tattarini, in collaboration with Veronica Bogao and Francesco Bonomi,
conducted for the debut of MIRABILI DESIGN by Formitalia Luxury Group.

the assumptions
Having accepted the unsustainability inherent in the discipline of design (at least in its first institutionalization),
we consider that extending the life cycle of objects, starting from their conception, is the primary
key to begin writing a second history of design. This way only we’ll be able to intervene in
the deep supply chain of the product system I order to export good material culture in the
future, rather than just waste.

Hacking an object means interpreting it differently from what was foreseen in its initial design,
revealing its options, broadening its horizon of use, thus extending its life by defeating perceived
obsolescence. The same one that leads to abandoning things that still have a lot to give.
With this project we embrace the idea of defining a more desirable future through objects and promote a generation of non-definitive furnishings, open and ready to be interpreted, even in use. The time of the recombinant project.

Long live change.
Long live with change.

ISIA Firenze

With this initiative, ISIA Firenze confirms its presence at the Milan Fuorisalone, affirming its role in the field of design culture and high education in design. The ISIA of Florence is the first founded university level institution for design in Italy, nowadays included in the AFAM sector - High Artistic and Musical Education - of the Ministry of University and Research.

The Institute, founded in 1975 with the aim of training new generations of professional designers,
is a future-oriented school, whose programs are linking tradition to innovation. For over forty years,
therefore, ISIA Firenze has been preparing its students to become designers capable of formulating avantgarde, sustainable projects capable of providing comfort appropriate to the contemporary way of life and creative technical solutions originated by a humanistic, social and technological point of view.
