Design Week 18-23 April 2023: protagonists in PLANIUM style

After the visionary installation of 2022 with the success of the refined solutions in oxidized metal, PLANIUM now confirms a distinct dimension in which Materials are the interpreters.

Metal is at the center of the set up for this new edition of DoT. Eternal raw material, ductile, recyclable and suitable for different tastes, Metal now takes on new forms that will easily make their way among the many proposals on display in Milan.

The exhibition itinerary takes place under the arches of the Great Cloister next to the Church of San Marco in Brera. The rhythm of the arches leads to the entrance of a rare place, open to the public only on certain occasions, an area where one can contemplate paintings and works of great historic-artistic importance.

PLANIUM welcomes its audience into a space beyond time, where anyone would like to sit down and stop. The path is created to appreciate the precious combination of selected materials and the story that is told: the universe, its elements, the planets, matter, energy, light.

On the arches, as many slabs show the lunar surface in all its charm and the set of planets floating in space in a decorative panel, Flow, designed for PLANIUM by Donatella Nobilio created in inlay with different metals: Calamine, Steel, Brass and Copper. This realization was awarded the "Business for Art" prize at the 17th edition 2022/23 of Arte Laguna Prize Venice.

Our circular surfaces in brushed steel combine with the solid wood of tables and coffee tables by NewLife, an Italian company that develops and manufactures high-end contract furniture. Cosmos was born from this collaboration, a small table on whose silver surface the charm of the features of the waxing, full and waning moon appears, obtained from artistic oxidation processes. Kosmos from the Greek stands for harmony, universe.

All around, the renowned Rubelli fabrics of the seats of the And modular system (design by Alan de la Coba) of NewLife pick up on the tones of the metal tops. Chosen in the round versions, which in turn were satellites and planets, they are covered with the bright colors of copper, steel and brass; the fabrics are 100% recycled from bottles.

Continuing we reach a raised scenario designed by Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman in which unique pieces emerge.                                                                                                                                                                The Shadow Light lighting elements designed by the famous duo fall from above.

With arched, spherical and ovoid shapes, the luminous works reflect an atmospheric light through inlaid ribs as if they were natural and oxidized brass laces.

Below, the light descends on Flow by Donatella Nobilio, in the coffee table version and its splendid planets in orbit. Once again the metal matches the wood of NewLife.

Alongside Flow, a work in which matter and its experimentation are the protagonists again, the desire to create and arouse strong emotions: Issiba designed by Matteo Tampone, made with oxidized and reflective metal surfaces.

In an infinite dynamism, the transformation of Metal is renewed in every detail. Oxidized copper integrates into mirror steel, art and technology are expressed in parallel.

For PLANIUM Matteo Tampone has combined opaque, oxidized surfaces with reflective surfaces.

The oxidation in this work takes on a third dimension: from a flat surface, it rises and adds depth: it is fun to look for one's own fragmented shape that appears unexpectedly in its details.

To accompany the mirroring monolith, Alisha Bergere of NewLife, elegant and refined, and "Sumi - Rame", a jacquard that represents a landscape taken from an original Japanese Sumi art design reinterpreted in a textile key.

The experience leaves an unforgettable memory.
