With Stringer, Danish #design platform #raawii expands their #design language into a new, sustainable material: cork. Stringer is made of natural cork granulate, which is saved during the production of wine corks, pressed
into blocks and then cut and milled into soft geometric shapes. With cork being a natural yet extremely durable material, the surfaces are finished to a velvety touch, only surface treated to protect against stains yet allowing beautiful natural patina over time.
Like the brand’s more colourful signature products, Stringer lives from the tension between surface and volume, refined proportions and a play of light and shadow. Designer Nicholai Wiig-Hansen finds a new, contemporary expression in the refined simplification of geometric shapes. His focus, however, is on everyday use: “The bench and the table are eco-friendly and extremely practical furniture pieces that add a natural and earthy touch to any room. Stinger can be positioned and used in many ways, which is a playful discovery for the user.”
The collection currently consists of a small table and a bench that neatly nest into each other. Both consist of a continuous u-shape with sturdy legs and a relatively thin yet solid horizontal surface which proves the cork
material’s structural qualities. The Stringer table doubles as a stool or small shelf, just as the bench can be used as a sofa table or small console.
