PEUGEOT salt and pepper mills reinterpreted by Peugeot Design Lab

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

Peugeot #design Lab, PEUGEOT’s Global Brand #design studio, presents its new-generation tabletop salt and pepper mills. These tapered, innovative mills are produced in a limited series of just 150 models sold at 99 euros each in the #peugeot online boutique and on the Peugeot-Saveurs.com website.

The historic expertise of PEUGEOT

PEUGEOTs history began more than two centuries ago in the east of France, the land of gourmet food and automotive achievement; it is no coincidence that its two fields of expertise are based on precision, alchemy and innovation. Beginning in 1810, the #peugeot family grain mill was transformed to produce saw blades. In 1840, the industrial adventure brought forth the first #peugeot coffee mill, followed in 1874, by the first #peugeot pepper mill, whose mechanism is covered by a lifetime warranty.

Each year, PSP (Poivrières Salières Productions) designs, manufactures and exports 2.5 million #peugeot mills throughout the world. These mills remain the preferred choice for chefs, with its mechanism that combines precision and longevity.

It was therefore natural that the #peugeotdesignlab, the Global Brand #design studio, collaborated with PSP to revisit the tabletop pepper and salt mills. After producing several concept mills in 2012, followed by the original MILAN #peugeot salt-and-pepper mills in 2015, the #peugeotdesignlab and PSP worked together to create these new-generation of mills.

Since its beginnings, #peugeot has designed and produced thousands of household and mobility-oriented objects, and each one is a demonstration of our multi-faceted and industrial expertise, as well as of our expertise in using new shapes to improve functionality. The #peugeotdesignlab creations in this partnership are a result of this heritage. The objective of these designs is to call on as many senses as possible – sight, taste, smell, hearing and touch – with PEUGEOT's signature modernity and harmony. Gilles Vidal, Head of #peugeot #design.

The innovative user experience of the #peugeot mill

This mill is designed to be held in an inclined position rather than vertically. Once the grains are ground, they do not directly fall into the dish, but rather are guided by a receptacle formed by the mill body, which makes it possible to precisely judge and control the quantity of seasoning.

The #design, featuring an elegant, tapered, dynamic shape, makes an understated reference to the formal style language of #peugeot. These mills combine the sharp, precise, technical feeling of the aluminium body with the warmth and sensuality of the wooden handle. The white lacquered stand supports both the form and function of the mills.

"The user is always at the heart of our designs. When creating the #peugeotdesignlab mills, we sought more precise control of amounts of spices, which brought us to reconsider the fundamental structure of the product and how it is used." Cathal Loughnane, Head of #peugeotdesignlab.
