Yakusha #design, a multidisciplinary studio based in Kyiv, Ukraine, founded by Viktoria Yakusha in 2006, recently has conducted a research of a usage of fake #design products (furniture and lighting) in public spaces interiors in Ukraine.

Design team has analysed over 100 most visited restaurants, coworking spaces and hotels, where they found more then 50 fake #design pieces, which replicate famous European #design brands. A research report was announced during NO FAKE event hold in Ya Vsesvit, Kyiv in October 2019 with participation of Ukrainian press, designers, architects and representatives of such #design brands as Vitra, Moooi, Tom Dixon, Philippe Starck and Fritz Hansen.

The TOP-5 #design fakes in Ukraine:

  • First place: Famous to everyone Eames Chair from Swiss brand Vitra, which can be found in almost every coworking in Kiev.
  • Second place: The legendary Heracleum chandelier from Dutch brand Moooi.
  • Third place: Egg Chair from the Danish company Fritz Hansen;
  • Fourth place: British designer Tom Dixon's Light Wide & Tall lamps;
  • Fifth place: Ghost Chair by Kartell, an Italian brand designed by French designer Philippe Starck.

"We never used fakes in our interior projects all of these 12 years" - said Victoria Yakusha, chief designer at Yakusha #design. - "We are convinced that fakes are what destroys #design. That's why we created manifest against fakes which explains what danger they may contain. Our aim to stop fakes in #design in Ukraine".

We want to live in the world of real things. And we wish it for others. That is why we set ourselves a goal: 100% of Ukrainian customers give up fakes and choose originals.

Firstly, fakes are a banal theft. Of designer ideas, experience, and name. Stealing of time, efforts and years of trying, of failures and finally of worldwide recognition.

Secondly, the attitude of Ukrainian designers to fakes and their use in projects is a STOP to Ukraine on its way to the global #design market. After all, copying someone else's ideas and decisions is not #design, at best it is borrowing (at worst – read above).

Thirdly, fakes are the thing that freezes the development of #design as an industry. Where unique #design decisions of the designer that could well become a legend might appear – appear cheap fakes.

Fourthly, fakes devalue Ukrainian identity as a fact. Our country has invaluable #design technologies and practices that have been created for more than a millennium. It is they who interest the whole world – we know this by our own experience of presenting the brand and Ukraine at the most authoritative #design exhibitions.

And finally, the fifthly. Fake is a thing that is of poor quality, often poses a serious health hazard, and is quickly dumped. As a result, fake is much more expensive.

Join us and let's do it together! No Fake. Be Real!
