Taichung, La Bella Vita
Living the good life is an idea, a lifestyle that brings body, mind, senses and reason into balance, an approach that masterfully mingles Mediterranean and East Asian. This concept coalesced in Taiwan with La Bella Vita, a massive residential project by Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel ‒ an expression of “total design” that has consistently defined their work.
Located in Taichung, the skyscraper is just steps from Charlotte Park, near the most sought-after shopping streets and cultural hot spots in this part of Taiwan. The impressive landmark is made up of complementary yet intersecting towers. The hub is a 37-story central core clad in a hexagonal pattern of amber glass that is embraced by four slightly lower towers where roomy balconies and hanging gardens add to the appeal.
The interior spaces were designed to connect the 168 residential units through shared spaces, almost like private squares where people can eat, relax, get together, read, and exercise ‒ nurturing body and spirit alike. These common areas are also furnished with an array of #flexform pieces, specifically the Happy, Leda, Feel Good and Hera armchairs, Campiello sofa and Ascanio, Fly and Este coffee/side tables along with Crono, Gelsomina and Leda chairs and Zefiro tables.
USA, Palo Alto
Living outdoors while staying at home: this is the norm at the Waverley Residence, home to a young couple that settled in a historic residential neighborhood in Palo Alto, California. Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects envisioned two main buildings: the house and a yoga-fitness studio, connected by a lightweight covered walkway with a slatted wood ceiling.
The main building is solid and audaciously simple, enhanced by artisan-crafted accents, like the bronze-trimmed windows and ceiling panels. The three floors are connected by a stone stairway that highlights the horizontal and vertical energy of the #design. Large picture windows ensure ready views of the splendid garden and lush surrounding greenery.
Part of the ground floor is dedicated to the open-plan kitchen that can be closed off with a unique, retractable metal mesh curtain. The adjacent living room features a fireplace made of hand-fired Danish bricks.
Relaxation and comfort are ensured by an impressive arrangement of the Groundpiece sofa, embellished with practical saddle-hide clad bookcase armrests.
Israel, Tel Aviv
This striking architectural #design was developed by Anderman Architects, that set the building into the landscape to promote the harmonious blending of indoor and outdoor spaces. The envelope is a singular clustering of perfectly symmetrical shapes, with meticulously clean lines and passageways that glow like a light-filled tunnel.
Large windows placed at the ends of these ‘tubes’ open right onto the garden.
Thanks to these brilliant #design features, the outdoor greenery can be enjoyed from any point inside the home.
The #interiordesign expresses a minimalist style in finely crafted, comfortable rooms.
Furnishing the generous-sized living area are the Lifesteel sofa and chaise longue designed by Antonio Citterio, here upholstered in soft leather in shades of brown, a style choice seamlessly consistent with the surroundings.
Belgium, Flanders
BARACHOIS HOUSE, FAMILY HOME IN FLANDERS, BELGIUM
Weightless, gravity-free. Here, at Barachois House - in the heart of the Flanders region - the Erpicum architects worked their magic to defy the laws of physics in a project where geometry and poetry become one and matter is an enigma.
The building is made up of monolithic structures overlain by seemingly weightless suspended horizontal surfaces. Outside, the natural surroundings embrace this residence and share in the #design.
Scene-stealer in the living area is the fireplace with its impressive solidly constructed chimney that literally floats above the flames. Raw materials in neutral colors alternate with smooth white surfaces, allowing the natural light to create ever-changing textures.
The Groundpiece sofa and Thomas armchairs provide the perfect counterpoint. Their softness creates an atmosphere of pure contemplation. Where it is one’s thoughts that are set free, weightless and at zero-gravity.
