Caddy in focus: seats as you want and need them to be

Hannover, 4 June 2021 – Two of the special features of #volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ new #caddy are undoubtedly its interior adaptability and its both flexible and large cargo capacity: up to seven seats, which can be folded down, tipped forward or taken out as required. These include for the first time ever two individual seats for the third row. They come as standard in the #caddy Maxi variants with long wheelbase or as an option in the short #caddy. Also part of the adaptability are the proven double bench seat and the single seat on the second row, now with adjustable backrest angle, a front passenger seat that, as an option, can be folded down and luggage space of up to 3.7 cubic metres.

The new #caddy is 4,500 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,755 mm. For anyone for whom that’s not enough, the #caddy Maxi, 35 cm longer at a length of 4,853 mm and with a wheelbase of 2,970 mm, provides even more space and possibilities. If the need arises, long objects can thus also be transported and it is possible, both in the #caddy and the #caddy Maxi, to go on an outing with up to seven people. An optional tow-bar, dependent on engine with up to 1,500 kg towing capacity and 75 kg support load, and an add-on bicycle carrier provide even greater scope for transporting things.

In the #caddy Cargo it is also possible to load up to two Euro pallets, because, at 1,230 mm, there is now appreciably more space between the wheel arches. In the #caddy Maxi one of the pallets will, if necessary, even fit sideways through the side sliding doors, now increased in width to 840 mm, and the second will fit either sideways or lengthways through the city delivery van's rear hatch or wing doors.

Highly adaptable: up to five flexible single seats and a double bench seat
Not only can two Euro pallets be stowed more easily than ever in the new #caddy Cargo or Maxi, workshop equipment or a courier service’s loads for an entire day can be equally well accommodated. And in the passenger car / Kombi versions of the #caddy there is space for up to seven people, complete with luggage, dog and sports equipment such as cross bikes for the weekend – ‘work - life - unlimited’ in the best sense. In the #caddy Maxi, Life Maxi and Style Maxi versions the seven seats come as standard. Thanks to the two additional single seats on the third row, which can be folded flat or taken out, the back of the #caddy can very quickly become a small ‘team bus’ or be very flexibly loaded.

In its standard specification the #caddy as a Kombi or compact MPV is a five-seater, with the second row fitted in this case with a single seat on the front passenger side and a double bench seat. New: the angle of their backrests can be adjusted. Naturally, the latest #caddy also retains tried and tested features: the passenger car and Kombi seats can, for example, still be folded down and tipped forward. And the seats can, of course, again be easily taken out. As an option, two further individual seats on the third row make the shorter Kombi and compact MPV likewise into a seven-seater. The three second-row seats can be folded down in space-saving fashion and tipped forward, i.e. rolled up. But that’s not all. They can also be taken right out to further enlarge the cargo space – up to 2,556 litres in the short wheelbase version and up to 3,105 litres in the #caddy Maxi. The Caddy's seating is thus extremely flexible.

One important point for families is that all outer passenger compartment seats and, optionally, the front passenger seat are fitted with Isofix anchors for securing compatible child seats. The seats in the #caddy offer even more: fold-down tables on the backrests of the front seating row are just as possible as drawers under the front seats. In the #caddy Life these tables and drawers are, for example, included as standard.

Caddy Cargo: clever ideas and exceptionally ergonomic seats
In the #caddy Cargo there are new, particularly solid lashing points, which simplify the stowing and securing of materials, goods, tools or luggage in the cargo space. A new feature in the Cargo’s cab is the fold-down front passenger seat with a now even more hard-wearing back panel, which thanks to an integrated worktop takes on the function of a mobile desk. Seat height adjustment is also included. New for the driver's seat and front passenger seat: for the first time in the #caddy Cargo they can now optionally be fitted with armrests. These come from #volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Transporter and Crafter and have been adapted for the #caddy Cargo. All materials used in the interior of the #caddy Cargo and Maxi are in addition resistant to dirt and very robust.

Well-suited to long distances and individually adjustable: these so-called AGR ergoComfort seats (AGR = German Campaign for Healthy Backs Society) are available as an option for all Cargo and passenger car versions, i.e. #caddy, Life, Move and Style. The particularly ergonomic seats have been specially developed for long-distance travellers and drivers who spend long hours on the road for work. The AGR ergoComfort seats are therefore multi-adjustable, partially electrically, partially manually: in addition to lengthways and height adjustment, they offer custom regulation of seat rake and seat depth, plus 4-way lumbar support to protect the lower back.

Space giant: flexible luggage space of up to 3.7 m3 in the #caddy Maxi
The Kombi and family MPV provide luggage space of up to 2,556 litres (loaded roof-high up to the first seating row, second row taken out); with five people on board the luggage space is an impressive 1,057 litres. The cargo space length of the Kombi and MPV is 1,913 mm up to the first row of seats; a maximum width of 1,185 mm is available between the wheel arches.

Despite its compact urban dimensions, the new #caddy Cargo has, at 1,614 mm, one of the widest cargo spaces on the market. Between the wheel arches there is up to 1,230 mm available (Caddy Cargo). The maximum width between the wheel arches of the #caddy as a passenger car is 1,185 mm. The new #caddy Cargo and the #caddy as a passenger car / Kombi / family MPV also set new standards in respect of cargo space length: measuring 1,797 mm (Cargo) / 2,150 mm (Cargo Maxi) up to the bulkhead, it is again one of the biggest in the segment. Measured up to the first seating row, the #caddy as a passenger car / Kombi / family MPV offers cargo space floor length of 1,913 mm.

Whenever there is a need to take rather more along, the new #caddy generation scores with its high load volume: in the case of the #caddy Cargo it is 3.1 m3 (standard wheelbase, based on the new measuring method, the SAE V6 standard) / 3.7 m3 (in the Maxi). Matching this are the high maximum payloads of up to 700 and 780 kg respectively. At 562 mm, the load sill is conveniently low (Caddy Cargo: 586 mm). The roof load capacity of the new #caddy is again 100 kg.

Being a trailing arm-guided rigid axle with Panhard rod, the new rear axle is very robust and has been designed and balanced in such a way that it offers notably increased agility in all load situations while still providing excellent ride comfort. The fifth generation of the #caddy, of which over three million have been made in its first four generations alone, is thus again offering another real highlight for its users: for the new Caddy's variable seating provides greater comfort for its passengers and the large space and transportation capacities of #caddy, #caddy Kombi, #caddy Cargo and their respective Maxi versions provide new levels of freedom for transporting goods, tools and materials.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ all-rounder, the new #caddy is based on the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB), as is also being used in the Golf. In addition to the seats, their flexibility and the variable load options, numerous other new technologies have been incorporated into the #caddy, making it even more practical, efficient and imperious.
