Nanimarquina expands with a new design studio
In 2004, #nanimarquina decided to install its offices in the central Gràcia neighborhood of #barcelona, choosing a unique location: Sederías Fábregas. The factory, conceived in 1912, presents a rationalist environment with large windows and few ornamental concessions, a
testament to the industrial past of the neighborhood.
Recently the company opted to create a new 130m2 #design studio. An open-plan space, filled with natural light, preserving the original elements of the unique building. The purpose of this new space destined for the #design department is to not only create collections, but also to develop tailored rugs for the Contract market while at the same time freely experiment with new techniques and fibers.
The #design studio presents different areas:
The Materioteca, a large storage area, contains around 1,000 samples carefully arranged by technique, as well as an archive of prototypes and fibers. The team also uses custom-created mood boards to visualize work concepts.
The Workshop is the domain of manual work. Here, looms of different sizes are places, as well as tools, and carefully selected artistic resources to unleash creativity.
A large table-platform is the star of this central area, designed in-house to place rugs as displays, offering a bird’s-eye view of the details of the prototypes during the creation process. Various worktables are arranged around this platform, which facilitate dialogue and teamwork.
And finally, a warm and welcoming Multipurpose Space, which will serve as a waiting room or a meeting room for greater privacy and acoustics
The #interiordesign project, carried out conjointly with Stefano Colli, followed the premise of intervening in a non-invasive manner, highlighting the identity of the industrial space.
“The protagonist is the place itself, we wanted to be very respectful of its past. It is part of the spirit of the brand to preserve the cultural legacy of the spaces that we intervene”, comments Nani Marquina.
The expansion coincides with the company's clear commitment to the Contract business sector, aiming to meet the requirements of designers, interior designers, and architects.
With 30 years’ of experience, more than 2,000 projects have been carried out for institutions, hotels, offices, retail, restaurants, and residential spaces on a national and international level. From a small perfumery in Paris, to a large hotel chain in Perth, or the United Nations.
