WITTMANN | Uniting tradition and modernity

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

Wittmann Möbelwerkstätten is in constant exchange between tradition and forward thinking. The synergies and the distinctiveness that result from the combination of existing #design principles and contemporary #design are what make the family business, founded in 1896, so special.

Josef Hoffmann, whose groundbreaking designs may only be re-edited by #wittmann to this day and build the foundation and inspiration of the #wittmann collection, initiated a type of #design thinking that still guides the company today. He overcame the opposition of tradition and modernity and created works that are valid to this day. The timelessness he achieved as well as his quality standards are creative source and guiding principle for #wittmann Möbelwerkstätten and all designers who work with the family business.

Creating innovative #design requires a respectful look back, a courageous look forward and the ability to set trends for eternity. To achieve this, #wittmann partners with the biggest names of their time whose designs pay tribute to the legacy of Josef Hoffmann in numerous different ways, while clearly being state of the art if not heading to the future.

Wittmann combines distinctive #design with masterful craftsmanship, creating furniture and living spaces as personal, expressive statements that endure.

»We aspire to a world that cultivates originality as the driving force for evolvement, since conformity means standstill.« #wittmann Möbelwerkstätten

BLOCKS Sofa & Elements | Neri&Hu

Design duo Neri&Hu appreciate contemporary products with a connection to tradition. Their #blocks #design for #wittmann follows this #design approach to perfection: organic and geometric at once, the individuallow-slung modules lend themselves to a huge variety of combinations. The inspiration was Josef Hoffmann‘s arch geometry for his CLUB 1910 Armchair. The result is a striking reinterpretation of an iconic form.

»Creating pieces that connect with a certain history has always been important to us. We hope they insertthemselves in a certain continuity but also hoping that they will have their own identity.«Neri&Hu

ANDES Armchair swivel | Luca Nichetto

Luca Nichetto‘s inviting #andes Armchair is available with both a fixed and swivel base. A striking detailis the rounded, delicate feet, the shape for which Luca Nichetto was inspired by a Josef Hoffmann spoondesign.

»We playfully accepted the challenge of transferring the special #design of the feet to the swivel #andes Armchair as well.« Luca Nichetto

TUKY Side #table | Luca Nichetto

At first glance this versatile side #table appears to be a monolithic sculpture, a piece of decorative artisans-hip. But besides the aesthetics, Luca Nichetto‘s #design is also functional: with a handle and a swivellingtable top, it is always available at the exact position it is needed.

»I admit everything practical and necessary, but I think we also always have the duty to delight. This joyis the main duty of our existence.« Josef Hoffman

ICONA Fabric Collection & #forme Rug Collection | Arthur Arbesser

In his collaboration with #wittmann, Arthur Arbesser had „his“ Vienna firmly in mind from the very beginning. His hometown appears again and again in the colours and proportions. Tiled Viennese staircases, historical book covers or pictures by Egon Schiele were the inspiration for his fabric and rug collection. His experience with Hoffmann‘s signature is as much the basis of his designs as the conviction that genuine quality also goes hand in hand with a high awareness of origin as well as transparent, sustainable production.

»For me, the collaboration with #wittmann feels very natural and harmonious. It‘s something that – in the context of my work, my background and my history – just makes sense.« Arthur Arbesser

»In order to point to the legitimacy and heritage of the #wittmann brand also in our new products, Hoffmann‘s #sitzmaschine was given an upholstery with an ICONA fabric for the first time instead of the classic version in leather. This completely changes the perception of the furniture for a younger audience as well.« Luca Nichetto

CARINZIA Chair | LucidiPevere

LucidiPevere and #wittmann share a passion for craftsmanship and for exploring #design boundaries. The joint bistro chair, counter and bar stool series #carinzia succeeds in accommodating the greatest possible comfort in a small space, such as through the pocket springs integrated in the seat.

»For the compact and smoothly self-contained form of the #carinzia chair series, we borrowed from Josef Hoffmann‘s #fledermaus Chair. Its harmonious proportions and the simplicity of all elements correspond to our aesthetic understanding.« Paolo Lucidi & Luca Pevere
