With the Xume Collection, #alki has brought a new slant on the time-honoured wooden chair with the introduction of a new recycled and recyclable material, PET.
Xume, evocative of pure, pared-down elegance in Basque, illustrates the intention of Iratzoki & Lizaso Studio to offer a simple, light and ergonomic chair that can blend into a multitude of settings.
The Xume chair has legs made in solid bentwood oak, the Cooperative’s preferred material, combined with a PET seat, thus bringing a remarkable touch of freshness to its surroundings. Made from plastic bottles that are heated and then melded, the texture of the seat is particularly soft. It is a durable and robust material that is also easy to clean.
The seat is available in four colours. As for the structure, it is available in the same shades as the seat, but also in our classic finishings, including natural oak.
Six attachment points in the wooden structure enable the seat to be easily removed. It can be replaced by another seat to create a new colour combination.
According to United Nations statistics, only about 9% of all the plastic produced since the 1950s has been recycled up to the present day. There is no doubt that our consumption patterns accumulate a large amount of waste, including plastic waste, which has become a problem that we must manage in order to reintroduce it into the market and avoid its incineration. PET felt is a new generation material that was initially developed in the automobile sector and, today #alki is using it to counter this problem. That’s why at #alki, we have chosen to include it as a new material for the Xume collection. PET felt is a new generation material that was initially developed in the automobile sector and, today #alki is using it to counter this problem.
